The road to WrestleMania starts here. The Royal Rumble is the starting point to the run up to Mania, the winner of the Royal Rumble will be able to choose which champion they face on the Grandest Stage Of Them All. This year’s event at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas is the 33rd time this show will have been held. I’ll now go through my tips on who could possibly win the men and women’s Royal Rumble matches.
Men’s Royal Rumble
Banker Bet: Roman Reigns @ 3/4 Unibet
Roman Reigns always seems to be labelled as the favourite to win the Royal Rumble. The Big Dog was absent from the 2019 Royal Rumble as he took time away from the ring to battle leukemia – a battle he is currently winning. In 2018 he entered the Rumble at number 28 and was the last man to be eliminated as Shinsuke Nakamura was crowned the winner. Reigns is a previous winner of the Rumble when he won the 2015 event from 19th.Reigns has not had a massive push in recent months, mainly fighting the likes of Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode. It’s time Reigns was back in the main events, and what better way to do so than winning the Royal Rumble.
Predictable WWE Booking Bet: Brock Lesnar 13/2 Unibet
Brock Lesnar may be the WWE Champion, but he won’t be putting his belt on the line at the Rumble. Instead, he is opting to take part in the Rumble. He has been confirmed as the number one entrant. WWE like to bill Lesnar as this indestructible monster. They could back this up by having him enter from the start and still be there at the end. In the history of the Royal Rumble, only two men have won it from the number one position – Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit. Rey Mysterio won it from second place in 2006. Having Lesnar appear unbeatable is what the WWE have been doing for years. Don’t be surprised to see him win the Royal Rumble for the second time in his career.
Bold Prediction: Edge @ 9/1 Unibet
It’s OK, this is not a typo. Edge could well be seen at the Royal Rumble in Texas. Reports have been rife that Edge will make his in-ring return after an absence of 11 years. He retired from the squared circle in 2011 because of a neck injury, if rumours are to be believed, he has since been cleared to wrestle again. To see Edge return would be electric. Whether he is in the best physical shape to actually win the Rumble is another matter. Saying that, he is my outside bet to be the last man standing after 29 other competitors have been eliminated.
Women’s Royal Rumble
Banker Bet: Shayna Baszler @ 1/2 Unibet
The former NXT Women’s Champion and ex-UFC fighter is the odds-on favourite to win the Royal Rumble. To be honest, it’s very hard to argue against her. She is a beast and does not care who stands in her way. She will just walk straight through them. Baszler was named the 2019 WWE female competitor of the year and she will be determined to start 2020 on the path to WrestleMania.
Predictable WWE Booking Bet: Charlotte Flair @ 7/1 Unibet
This will be the third year in succession that the women will have their own Royal Rumble event. The first one was won by Asuka in 2018, while Becky Lynch stood tall 12 months later. Ironically, these two will not be participating in this year’s Rumble as they will be facing each other for Lynch’s WWE RAW Women’s Championship. That means we will have a first-time winner in 2020 and that brings me to Charlotte Flair, who is never too far away from the limelight. She takes after her dad in that respect. Flair has never won the Rumble and that will be eating away at her. The five-time Smackdown Women’s Champion and four-time RAW Women’s Champion will be eager to be the face of WrestleMania once again. Expect her to do everything she can to be the last woman standing.
Bold Prediction: Kari Sane @ 20/1 Unibet
Kari Sane is a nice bet for an outsider. The former NXT Women’s Champion and current Women’s Tag Team Champion has a unique style that will stand her in good stead for the Rumble. She is quick on her feet and great in the air. If the WWE are looking to elevate a current roster wrestler to stardom, then they could do worse than choosing Sane.
Royal Rumble Special Bets
Who will be the number 2 entrant? Cain Velasquez @ 5/2 Unibet
You can have a bit of fun with the Royal Rumble when it comes to betting. You can bet on what number which wrestler would be or how many eliminations they would have. Here is one we definitely fancy. We already know that Brock Lesnar will be the number one entrant in the Royal Rumble, but who will be the second one? It would be good to see Lesnar’s former UFC foe Velasquez come in at number two so they have a full two minutes of going at each other before the next opponent. It probably won’t happen like that but it would be good entertainment.
