There might not be any fans in attendance at WrestleMania 36, but that doesn't mean we won't witness a title change. WWE have decided to hold 'The Grandest Stage of Them All' behind closed doors at their Performance Centre, but we believe there will still be some major storyline twists.
Becky Lynch is ‘The Man’ in the WWE and she has been RAW Women’s champion since beating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to win the RAW title and the Smackdown Women’s Championship to become ‘Becky Two Belts’ at WrestleMania 35.
Lynch lost the Smackdown title to Flair at the Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View, who then lost it to Bayley as she cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase.
Lynch has since had successful title defences against the likes of Lacey Evans, Natalya and Sasha Banks and she undoubtedly faces her toughest test in former UFC fighter Shayna Baszler.
This feud started in the build-up to Survivor Series which saw Lynch go up against Baszler – who was the NXT Women’s champion – and Bayley in a champion versus champion versus champion non-title bout. Baszler won the match by submitting Bayley while Lynch was out of the ring. After the bout, Lynch attacked Baszler and put her through a table.
Their feud reached boiling point when Baszler attacked the RAW champion from behind in February and sank her teeth into the back of her neck. This infuriated ‘The Man’ and she was frothing at the mouth to get her hands on Baszler – even wanting her to win the Elimination Chamber match.
Baszler did win the Elimination Chamber by defeating Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, Asuka and Natalya to set up a title match at WrestleMania 36.
This match will still go ahead at the Performance Centre with no spectators in attendance, but I am expecting a title change to take place.
There are strong rumours that Lynch is taking some time off away from the ring to marry fellow wrestler Seth Rollins – this would make sense for her to be brutalised by Baszler and lose her title. She can take the time off she needs and will be able to come back and get revenge on Baszler in the near future.
There have also been rumours that the WWE are losing faith with Baszler, if she does get this title run, she will need to carry the ball long to prove she has a future in the professional wrestling business. This could be the right time for Baszler to shine, with Lynch out of the picture she can be the go-to star that the WWE needs and become the female equilavent of Brock Lesnar – but hopefully she will wrestle and appear on TV more than the ‘Beast Incarnate’.
