The Royal Rumble is the first Pay-Per-View of the year, and it officially starts the Road to WrestleMania. The winner of the men and women’s Royal Rumble match will see them get a title shot at WrestleMania 37 at the Raymond James Stadium – home of Super Bowl 55.
Scotland’s Drew McIntyre won the 2020 edition when he entered the Rumble at number 16, and he eliminated five opponents before making WWE champion Brock Lesnar his sixth and final victim to win the Rumble and got to WrestleMania – where he became champion by defeating Lesnar.
The women’s Rumble match was won by Charlotte Flair. She entered at number 17 and eliminated Bianca Belair, Kelly Kelly, Sarah Logan and Shayna Baszler. Flair then went on to challenge and defeat Rhea Ripley to win the NXT women’s championship.
2021 Men’s Royal Rumble Match: Winner
The beauty of the Royal Rumble match is there will always be some surprise entrants. Whether it is an old legend or a superstar returning from injury, the excitement and anticipation when the timer gets to zero is electric. I am going for a little bit of a fans favourite to win the men’s event this year. Ever since he debuted in NXT, Keith Lee has formed an exceptionally large fan base and they would love to see the 36-year-old get a massive push. Lee is a former NXT champion and NXT North American champion, and victory over 29 other entrants will see him receive his second WWE title match. Since arriving on the main roster, Lee has defeated former champions Randy Orton and Sheamus, but he came up short when he took on McIntyre in a title match on January 4. It looks like Lee will get a massive push soon, and I believe we will all ‘Bask In His Glory’ at the Rumble.
2021 Men’s Royal Rumble Match: Most Eliminations
Seeing a wrestler thrown over the top rope and crash to the floor is what makes the Royal Rumble such an enjoyable event. Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman hold the record for the most single eliminations with 13 at the 2020 and 2018 events respectively, while Roman Reigns eliminated 12 in 2014 and Kane threw 11 over the top in 2001. Kane tops the list for the most eliminations altogether with 44 from 19 Rumble matches. I cannot see anyone breaking Lesnar and Strowman’s record in 2021, but I do believe one superstar will get the viewing audience going with several quick eliminations. I am going to back Big E to have a mini burst of throwing people out left, right and centre, before being eliminated at the end by Keith Lee. Back Big E to have the most eliminations altogether.
2021 Women’s Royal Rumble Match: Winner
Winning the Royal Rumble allows that superstar to have their moment in the sun and puts them in the spotlight at WrestleMania. Just like the men’s event, there will probably be a couple of surprise entrants with former stars having five more minutes of fame. You can expect superstars like Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix or Trish Stratus to make an appearance, but they are never going to win the Rumble. I am once again going for a former NXT star in Bianca Belair to stand victorious at the end. Belair made her Royal Rumble debut last year as she entered at number two before being eliminated by eventual winner Charlotte Flair. She eliminated eight other superstars during her stay of 33 minutes and 20 seconds, and I am backing her to go one further in 2021 and set up a possible title shot against Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37.
