UFC Betting: Colby Covington v Jorge Masvidal UFC 272 Betting Tips & Predictions

This is a bout between two fighters who split opinions among the UFC fan base. I suppose I am being polite. Covington and Masvidal are both loud and opinionated. Some fans like that, and quite a few don’t.

I’m on the fence with both of them, to be honest. What I cannot take away from them is that they are both extremely talented fighters.

This will be in the welterweight division. The winner of the fight at UFC 272 will believe they deserve a title shot against champion Kamaru Usman.

Covington is a former interim welterweight champion. He defeated Rafael dos Anjos on points to win the belt in June 2018. He later had to give up the belt due to nasal surgery.

After recovering from his surgery, Covington returned in August 2019 as he set a record for the most strikes – 541 – in a victory over Robbie Lawler.

He felt he was on course to become world champion. He then got his title opportunity, but he was stopped in the final round to see Usman keep his title.

A victory over Tyron Woodley again saw him take on Usman for the belt. Again, he came up short as he lost on points. He knows victory over Masvidal will set up a third fight. If he fails to beat Usman this time, he might not get another chance.

Masvidal is also a former welterweight title challenger. He has gone up against Usman on two occasions and come up short both times.

His first battle with The Nigerian Nightmare saw him lose a thrilling fight on points at UFC 251. He then got a second opportunity at UFC 261, but again he couldn’t get the job done. He was knocked out in the second round – his first stoppage defeat as a professional.

He has not been in the Octagon since, although he has still been on our screens. He appeared on All Elite Wrestling as part of American Top Team. This hinted that he could be looking at a career change once his UFC career is over.

That could be sooner than he thought. If he fails to beat Covington at UFC 272, then a title shot will not be coming his way anytime soon. It might be best for him to move over to professional wrestling and earn his money that way.

I have already said I am not a fan of either of these fighters, but I have to stick my neck on the line and back a winner. I am going for Covington to take this by decision. I feel Covington is the much smarter fighter. He will keep Masvidal at a distance and do enough to get his arm raised.

Colby Covington And Jorge Masvidal Feud: They Hate Each Other

Covington and Masvidal used to be team-mates and friends at American Top Team, but one day that all changed. Check out what they both have to say about their rivalry and past.

Colby Covington: “I feel like a little kid the night before Christmas. I’m super excited to hold this kid accountable for all the reckless words he’s said to the media. He’s been lying this whole time and I can’t wait to expose him in front of the world. I’m the best fighter in the world right now, I don’t care what anybody says. I won three rounds out of my last undisputed title fight with [Kamaru] Usman. The people saw at Madison Square Garden, just because three stooges sitting cage side awarded him three rounds to two, one measly round he won by. I know truly, deep down inside, who is the best fighter in the world and that’s me and next weekend you’re going to see him on display. This is way more personal, this is a blood feud. This goes back to a brotherhood. We were eight years together, every single day, side by side, couldn’t leave each other best friends. And now we’re the biggest bitter enemies. Like, he’s the one person on Earth that I don’t give a sh*t. Anytime I see him, I want to send him straight to hell, and luckily, I get to do it in the UFC octagon next Saturday night on pay-per-view. It’s going to be bad. I’m going to make him pay, I’m going to make him suffer for backstabbing me and turning his back and trying to run this fake narrative to the media. I see a lot of pain. I’m going to inflict so much pain on Jorge Masvidal. He’s not going to be the same person ever again. He keeps talking about a baptism. It’s not going to be a baptism, it’s going to be a funeral. Jorge Masvidal’s career-ending funeral. It’s going to be violent. And it’s not going to be quick. I could easily finish it quick — I used to do it all the time behind closed doors — but this one I’m going to drag it out, I’m going to make him suffer, and it’s probably going to be the first time in UFC history you see a guy in a main event verbally tap out and say he can’t take no more of a beating.”

Jorge Masvidal: “I go back to my seat, and I see him waving down Dana White. And I go, ‘Nah, there’s no way.’ You could ask Dana White this. He waves down Dana White and he tells Dana White that I’m trying to fight him, right there on sight. But this guy is talking all this sh*t on the internet that he’s a thug. Dana White calls me over and goes, ‘Man, are you trying to hand out three pieces and a soda, Masvidal? No, but seriously, don’t f*cking fight here at the event.’ I’m like, ‘Bro, all I wanted to do was talk to the guy outside, bro.’ Now he’s made it a problem by f*cking tell you, my co-worker, that I’m trying to do all this. You’re snitching on me. I come into the gym (when they were team-mates at ATT), random practice, and I see him there — and he kind of tries to ignore me. And I was like, ‘Hey bro, after practice, we’ll talk.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, for sure, bro. Cool, cool. We’re talking.’ It’s pretty amicable, it’s not that bad. He’s like, ‘What do you want to talk about?’ I’m like, ‘I want to talk about you being a b*tch and bringing up my name in interviews when Dan [Lambert] has said not to.’ I still haven’t gone public with him [at the time], I’m just trying to address him man-to-man. Like, let’s not go that route, bro. And if we are, first let’s just put the gloves on, beat the sh*t out of each other, and then get it out of the system, you know? As soon as I turn my back and a couple of people come with him, the show starts. (Covington yells back,) ‘I’ll f*cking kill you, bro! Don’t ever talk to me like that!’ Literally, I said my peace, turned around, started walking this way. This guy is f*cking shouting out at the mouth while we’re like 10 feet away. I turn around, I come to confront him — it’s too late. The whole gym is involved because he made such a show, right? So, I tell him, there’s this place, this sushi place where we used to go to right here, and I tell him, ‘I’m going to go to the sushi place, bro. Dinner’s on me. Let’s go. I’ll be waiting for you.’ So, I get in my car, go to the place — he’s not showing up. I get on Instagram, ‘Hey bro, if you want to collect your dinner, I’m over here.’ Blah, blah, blah. He never showed up. So, I’ve always known, deep down inside, he’s a coward, man. And I just can’t wait for March 5 to expose it. I was probably going to break a bottle on his face.”
