Kamaru Usman v Colby Covington 2 UFC 268 Tips & Predictions

Let’s clear this up now. Colby Covington is not everyone’s cup of tea, but he can fight, and he puts bums on seats. You could say a bit like Conor McGregor – but not as talented.

Covington loves to wind his opponents up. He has a big mouth and there are plenty of fighters out there wanting to shut it for good. Well, Kamaru Usman has the opportunity to do it for a second time at Madison Square Garden this weekend.

These two have already met in the Octagon. Back in December 2019, Usman stopped Covington in the fifth round after knocking him down twice. Usman laid a barrage of shots on Covington and the fight was stopped. It was reported that Covington was ahead on points before the stoppage.

That will give Covington a lot of confidence heading into this fight. He will believe he has the tools to unlock Usman and take him the distance this time.

I don’t agree with that. Usman will be looking to make a statement. He is tired of Covington’s antics and will be looking to dish out a whole lot of trouble on Covington. The verbal spats between these two have been enjoyable, and I expect plenty of fireworks in the Octagon.

Usman has just one defeat on his professional record. He was beaten by Jose Caceres in only his second bout, but he has not lost since May 24, 2013. His first fight in the UFC took place on December 19, 2015 when he beat Leon Edwards on points.

Since then, he has won 12 consecutive fights. He became UFC welterweight champion in March 2019 when he beat Tyron Woodley with a unanimous decision. His record since that title win has been impressive. He has defended his title on four occasions beating Covington, Jorge Masvidal twice and Gilbert Burns.

Covington is a talented fighter. It is just his attitude that stinks. ‘Chaos’ has a professional record of 18 fights, 16 wins and two defeats. We know one of those defeats was against Usman, while his other loss came back in December 2015 when he was submitted by Warlley Alves at UFC 194.

Covington won the interim welterweight belt in 2018 when he beat Rafael dos Anjos on points. He was later stripped of that title after being unable to face Woodley at UFC 228.

I have no doubt that this will be a war. Usman cannot afford to be complacent as Covington has nothing to lose. I expect a fully focused Usman and will force a knockout win in the later rounds.

Kamaru Usman v Colby Covington 2 UFC 268 Tips & Predictions: Fighter’s Predictions

Colby Covington: “Hey ‘Marty,’ is your daddy the jailbird coming on Saturday night? I got a hookup with law enforcement if you want me to call his parole officer, I’ll make sure he can come on Saturday night. You want me to make sure? I feel so bad for Mrs Usman. She’s got a cheating-ass son and a scammer-ass husband. That must be sh*tty in that household. He avoided this rematch at all costs. Uncle Dana (White) and the UFC had to force his hand. He was trying to fight other lightweights. He was trying to fight Nate Diaz. He was trying to fight anybody but this rematch. He knows who daddy is. He knows who really won that fight. If he didn’t fake timeouts in the first fight, I would have destroyed him. It’s OK, better late than never. I don’t live in the past, Saturday night’s the future. I’m destroying ‘Marty Fakenewsman.’”

Kamaru Usman: “Could you please make that phone call? Please, I need him here to watch you get your face broken this time. Listen, if he’s saying that I was faking this or faking that to get out of the fight, but I didn’t. I stayed in the fight, and I broke your f*cking jaw. I love what I bring to the table. He pushed me last time. I expect that from him this time. But as a person, he’s a rotten piece of sh*t, and I can’t believe his father let him put this persona on. He won’t spank you, don’t worry, Saturday night, I’ll do it for him. I’m looking at your dad over here in the corner, [all] respect my man, and I can just tell he’s embarrassed each and every time you open your mouth.”
