Nate Diaz v Tony Ferguson UFC 279 Betting Tips & Predictions
The bout that should have seen Khamzat Chimaev take on Nate Diaz has been postponed and Diaz will now take on Tony Ferguson.
Chimaev failed to make weight for his contest, and after desperately trying to cut the desired amount, a decision was made to allow Chimaev to face Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout of 180lbs.
That meant that Diaz would now face Tony Ferguson in the main event, with Ferguson’s original opponent Li Jingliang now taking on Daniel Rodriguez.
Diaz has only fought four times in the last six years and has lost three of them. He might be able to bring in a crowd, but it looks like he is not a major threat to the guys coming through at the moment – in this case, it is good for the company that Diaz was on the card because he will literally fight anyone that is put in front of him.
Tony Ferguson is the same. He is a warrior who will not back down from a fight. Ferguson is probably not the force he was a few years ago.
He is a former interim UFC lightweight champion, but he has not won in the Octagon since he defeated Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 in June 2019.
Since then, he has lost four fights on the run and his last fight saw him knocked out by Michael Chandler at UFC 274.
Unfortunately for El Cucuy, I can see him losing a fifth successive fight. Diaz is hungry and ready to go and he will send a message to the rest of the division that he has more fuel in the tank.
Diaz has won 11 of his 20 wins by submission – he famously choked out Conor McGregor. I am backing Diaz to choke Ferguson out in the second round.
