Weidman was part of the corner team for Gian Villante’s heavyweight fight with Chad Griggs on the Strikeforce card that took place in New Jersey back in February 2011, and prior to the night’s action he stuck a $50 accumulator bet on the card that stood to win him $20,000.

He fell just one leg short of that windfall, and in a reply to a tweet by renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Weidman has now revealed it was the man who he was cornering, Villante, that cost him the winner when he was knocked out inside the first round.

“I’ll never forget this event as well!” Weidman wrote.

“I put in a bet. One of my first. I did a parlay picking the winner for every fight on the card. I got every fight right other than ONE. It was like $50 to win like $20k… take a guess on the one fight I guessed wrong.”

Weidman went on to reveal that he had never told Villante about it, but confirmed that he learned his lesson that night… ”Lol I don’t bet on friends anymore no matter what!”
