There are just two teams unbeaten after their two matches this season, they are Castleford Tigers and Hull FC. Huddersfield Giants are the only other team unbeaten, but they have played just once after their home game against Leeds Rhinos was postponed because of Storm Ciara.
There are six more matches this weekend, so we are going to go have a go at picking three Super League players that we believe will score the opening tries in their game this weekend.
Super League Tips – Dan Sarginson 1st try scorer for Salford Red Devils vs Huddersfield Giants @ 12/1 Paddy Power
Salford signed Dan Sarginson from Wigan Warriors for the start of the 2020 Super League campaign. Sarginson is a quality centre and he certainly knows his way to the try line.
He scored two tries in a pre-season friendly against Warrington Wolves for Mike Cooper’s Testimonial, he didn’t manage to score against St Helens in week one, but he crossed the whitewash in their 24-16 win over Toronto Wolfpack last Saturday.
The former London Broncos and Gold Coast Titans could have a major influence on this game, his defence is second to none, but it will be with ball in hand that Salford want him to shine.
There will be plenty of top-class try scorers on the pitch at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday with the likes of Jermaine McGillvary, Louis Senior, Darnell McIntosh and Innes Senior in action for the Giants, while Salford have quality as well with Rhys Williams, Niall Evalds and Ken Sio also partial to a try or two.
We believe it will be Sarginson that will cross over first, he knows the way to the line and if he believes he has a chance of scoring then he will not be passing that ball.
Super League Tips – Ben Crooks 1st try scorer for Hull KR vs Leeds Rhinos @ 12/1 Paddy Power
We believe Leeds Rhinos will win this week three game at Headingley against Hull Kingston Rovers, but we do fancy the Robins to cross over for the opening try of the game.
Hull KR were everyone’s tip to get relegated at the start of the season, but they opened up the campaign with a convincing win over Wakefield Trinity before pushing Hull FC very close in week two.
One player who came out of those games with a lot of credit was Hull KR winger Ben Crooks. The 26-year-old son of Great Britain, Hull and Castleford legend Lee has hit the ground running this season. He kicked off the new season with four tries against Wakefield, before crossing again in the 25-16 loss against Hull FC.
Crooks has received a lot of criticism over the years because of who is dad is, but he seems to have found his feet at Hull KR and has scored 15 tries in 28 appearances for the club since joining them on a permanent deal from Leigh Centurions. We are backing him to stun the Rhinos early on with the opening score.
Super League Tips – Derrell Olpherts 1st try for Castleford Tigers vs Catalans Dragons @ 11/1 Paddy Power
All the talk ahead of the game between Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers is whether or not Israel Folau will make his Super League debut for the Dragons.
Whether we believe he should be allowed in Super League at all doesn’t matter now, the fact is, he is. He has been named in Steve McNamara’s squad for the game but only he knows if he will play or not.
We are backing a relatively smaller named star to upstage Folau this weekend with Castleford winger Derrell Olpherts going over for the opening try at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
Olpherts is a quality winger, but he probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He is strong and fast and knows the way to the try line. He showed that last weekend when he went in at the corner to score first against Wigan Warriors, we are backing him to do the same in the South of France.
