LATEST: Ex-Strictly star James odds-on to win after perfect semi-final showing

James Jordan’s dazzling Dancing On Ice semi-final displays have left the bookmakers with no choice but to make him the odds-on favourite to win this weekend’s Dancing On Ice Final.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional came into the 2019 series as the bookies’ pick to skate off with the title, but there was some backlash towards him due to his professional dancing experience, with many feeling it had given him an unfair advantage, and a few weeks in he was replaced at the head of the betting by Love Island star Wes Nelson.

However, after a couple of show-stealing performances last Sunday night the bookmakers had no option but to restore James to top spot in the outright market.

Despite battling a hernia injury, the 40-year-old earned the first perfect score of the season and a standing ovation from the judges for his performance to the James Bay track ‘Hold Back The River’, but he was not done yet and ensured his second outing on the ice would be equally impressive.

The lifelong ‘Dirty Dancing’ fan picked out the song ‘Do You Love Me’ from the hit movie, and after dedicating it to his wife Ola he went out and wowed the judges again to complete a perfect night with four more 10s.

Ladbrokes responded to James phenomenal night by slashing his odds all the way into 4/7, and that means has now leapfrogged Wes to go into this weekend’s final as the favourite to win the second series of the show since it returned to our screens.

While James has shortened Wes has drifted, but at 11/8 the bookmakers are not writing off the Love Island contestant who did have a strong semi-final showing by earning three 9.5s on his way to a total scored of 73.5.

Saara Aalto finished just 0.5 points behind Wes on the leaderboard, but the former Eurovision Song Contest star is a long way behind him in the betting with Ladbrokes pricing her up at 25/1 for a shock Dancing On Ice Final win after she was forced to win a skate-off with ex-boyband star Brian McFadden just to make it to the last show of the series.

Dancing... on ice... there has been no shortage of celebrities that have taken on the challenge of trying to impress ice skating legends Torvill & Dean, and after a few years on the shelf the series returns in 2018 with a bunch of new celebrities picking up that gauntlet - but will we see more Todd Carty's and who will be the next Ray Quinn?

Ray was crowned as the greatest champion this TV show has produced when he won the 'All-stars' series back in 2014, adding that honour to his 2009 series success, but there has been a wide variety of winners when it comes to Dancing On Ice - actors, actresses, singers, former rugby players and even an ex-Olympian have all been crowned champion over the years.
