Gallagher Premiership Final Predictions & Tips: Exeter Chiefs v Wasps (Saturday 18:00 BST)
Exeter Chiefs are on the verge of making history as they look to complete a European and Domestic double when they take on Wasps in the Gallagher Premiership Final.
The Chiefs clinched their first ever Champions Cup trophy last weekend as they ran out 31-27 winners over Racing 92 at Ashton Gate, and they will be looking to add their second Gallagher Premiership title to their ever-expanding trophy cabinet.
This will be the fifth year in succession that Exeter have reached the Premiership Final, their only success came in the 2017 Final when they secured a 23-20 extra-time win over their opponents on Saturday. They have since lost two Finals on the bounce, going down to Saracens on both occasions.
Wasps go in search of their fifth Premiership Final success, their last Final success was back in 2008 when they recorded a 26-16 win over Leicester Tigers.
Exeter ended the weekly rounds on top of the ladder with 74 points, while Wasps finished three points behind them in second place. The Chiefs booked their place in the Final with a convincing 35-6 win over Bath with forward Jonny Hill helping himself to a brace of tries, while Wasps scored five tries of their own as they dispatched Bristol Bears 47-24.
Throughout the years, these two have played 26 times with the Chiefs dominating matters with 17 wins, while Wasps have eight wins under their belt. Only one of their 26 matches have ended in a draw.
Exeter and Wasps deserve to be in the Final after being the best two teams in the competition on a consistent basis. The Chiefs might have lost their last three league matches, but they had already secured top spot and coach Rob Baxter decided to rest some of his star players.
Since the play-offs started, the Chiefs are a different animal, and they are focused on winning more silverware. I am backing them to come out on top in this one and clinch the double with a 1-12 points victory.
Both teams love to throw the ball around, while they are also capable of getting involved in a midfield scrap. Exeter have scored 88 tries this season, while Wasps have scored just two less so hopefully, we will see a few tries being scored in the Final.
Last weekend, I suggested you back Exeter number 8 Sam Simmonds to cross over for a try at any time during the Champions Cup Final. He did that, so I am once again backing him to score his 11th try of the campaign during the 80 minutes.
