Premiership Rugby Cup Predictions & Tips: Sale Sharks v Harlequins (Monday 19:45 BST)

Sale Sharks and Harlequins will finally battle it out in the Premiership Cup Final on Monday after the original game was postponed back in March.

The Sharks have home advantage for the Premiership Cup Final – which was renamed in 2018 from the Anglo-Welsh Cup after the Welsh teams opted to drop out – having finished higher in the group stages of the tournament. Sale finished top of Pool 1 with four wins from four, while Harlequins topped Pool 2 with just one defeat.

The semi-finals saw Sale run out 28-7 winners of the 2019 runners-up Saracens, with Denny Solomona, Will Cliff, Tom Curry and Akker van der Merwe crossing for tries, while Harlequins scored seven tries in their 49-22 victory over Exeter Chiefs with Alex Dombrandt and Gabriel Ibitoye scoring two tries apiece.

Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond has decided to hand a full first-team debut to 23-year-old South African Cobus Wiese and he will partner Jean-Luc du Preez in the back row. Cliff and Rob du Preez will partner each other in the halves, while Van der Merwe, Valerey Morozov, Will-Griff John, James Phillips, Curry, Faf de Klerk and Manu Tuilagi are named on the bench.

Harlequins welcome back Scott Baldwin, Simon Kerrod, Dino Lamb and Nathan Earle and they will all start the Final, while club captain Chris Robshaw also returns as the Quins look to win this tournament for the fourth time in their history.

Home advantage could count for a lot in a Final, familiar surroundings can help with nerves, so I am backing the Sharks to win this one by 13+ points. I am also backing former rugby league winger Denny Solomona to touch down during the game.
