Autumn Nations Cup Predictions & Tips: Ireland v Georgia (Sunday 14:00 GMT)

Ireland coach Andy Farrell is not a man who handles defeat very well, and he’ll be determined to get his side firing on all cylinders against Georgia on Sunday.

Farrell, who is a born winner thanks to his rugby league upbringing in Wigan, was less than impressed with his side’s showing last weekend as they went down 18-7 at the hands of England at Twickenham.

Billy Burns is set for his first Irish start at international level at fly-half as Farrell has given him the responsibility to replace the injured Jonathan Sexton, and is one of five Ulster players named in the starting XV.

Munster’s Shane Daley will make his Ireland debut from the bench, while Rob Herring will start the game at hooker. If his line-out throws are significantly better than what Ronan Kelleher dished up at Twickenham, he could make that number two jersey his own.

Ireland still have a very slim chance of finishing top of Group A, they would need to post a lot of points against Georgia and hope Wales beat England.

Georgia, on the other hand, will just be happy to score any points at all. They have failed to score against England and Wales in the Autumn Nations Cup as they went down 40-0 and 18-0 respectively.

I expect Ireland to win this one convincingly, but not enough to see them qualify for the final as I cannot see Wales beating England.

Farrell insists he wants his players to have fun, and if you are scoring tries at a regular pace then you are going to enjoy it. I cannot see Georgia putting up a decent fight and I am backing Ireland to win by 21-30 points.
