The Steve Prescott Man of Steel award is handed out at the end of every Super League season to the player who has been voted the best player of the year.
The Man of Steel award was renamed to the Steve Prescott Man of Steel following the death of the former St Helens, Hull and Wakefield Trinity fullback in 2013 after he was diagnosed with a rare stomach cancer.
The cancer was found in 2006 and Prescott was given months to live. He bravely battled the disease and lived for another seven years, raising over half a million pounds for charity through his Steve Prescott Foundation.
After a long battle, the RFL felt renaming the Man of Steel award was the least they could do for a player hugely respected by his peers.
So, from the 2014 Super League season onwards, the award was named the Steve Prescott Man of Steel.
