NRL Predictions & Tips: Penrith Panthers v Newcastle Knights (Thursday 10:50 BST)

Not many teams go a whole NRL season without losing a single game, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Penrith Panthers did just exactly that in 2021. Ivan Cleary’s men look to have handled their Grand Final loss last season in the best possible way, and that is by getting better and making sure that heartache never happens again. They are unbeaten after six rounds and have been very impressive so far. They come into this game on the back of a 20-12 win over Brisbane Broncos. They were not at their clinical best, but they did enough to take the two competition points. They take on a Newcastle Knights side that ended a three-game losing streak in round 6 when Kalyn Ponga guided them to a 26-22 win over Cronulla Sharks. The Panthers have named the same squad that beat the Broncos with Dylan Edwards and Api Koroisau both expected to return in week eight. The Knights have been hit with a number of injury problems this season and they will be without Hymel Hunt with a hamstring injury. Hunt joins Phoenix Crossland, Tex Hoy and Mitchell Pearce on the sidelines. That win for the Knights will have filled them with confidence, but they cannot allows rely on Ponga to get them home. I am backing the Panthers to make it seven wins in succession with a comfortable win. Victory on Thursday will see them make it four wins on the bounce n home soil at the BlueBet Stadium.
