Nov 25: Trump stays favourite despite impeachment hearing

Betting on US Politics has become big business for bookmakers in recent years – at least partly thanks to President Donald Trump’s shock victory in 2016.

The last US Election saw one bookmaker alone – William Hill – take £5million of bets on the outcome of the race to the White House, while another firm, Paddy Power, called Trump’s win in 2016 “the biggest political payout in the company’s history”.

Before beating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Election, Trump had started as a 150/1 no hoper when he announced his candidacy.

The 2020 US Election is now expected to be the biggest political betting event ever, and as you’d expect, there are a wide range of Trump-related betting markets available.

The number of markets has grown in recent weeks thanks to impeachment proceedings against the president after a formal impeachment inquiry against Trump began in September, with the President accused of breaking the law by pressuring Ukraine’s leader, President Volodymyr Zelensky, to find potentially damaging information on a political rival.

Despite all of this the bookmakers believe there is a good chance that Trump will be voted in for a second term, with the current President the 6/5 favourite to win the 2020 US Presidential Election ahead of 11/2 Joe Biden and 13/2 Elizabeth Warren.
