Monaco Grand Prix Betting Predictions & Tips

The Monaco Grand Prix returns this year after last season’s instalment was cancelled. The last winner of the famous race at the Circuit de Monaco was unsurprisingly Lewis Hamilton – the defending world champion in a Mercedes.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that as long as Hamilton finishes the race, he has an excellent chance of winning the race or finishing on the podium. We all know that the car does most of the work, but credit still has to go to the British driver. He knows all the tracks like the back of his hand, and you do have to admire his talent although it does like look a computer game most of the time.

I don’t have a problem with Lewis Hamilton. He is a professional sportsman at the top of his profession, it is up to everyone else to catch up to him – no pun intended – it’s not his fault he can handle the controls – sorry steering wheel – better than the rest.

Although I don’t have a problem with Hamilton, I do have a problem with the team politics that seem to go in his favour. There has been a number of times when he ‘team-mate’ Valtteri Bottas has been winning the race, and he has been informed on the radio to allow Hamilton to pass. That is something I cannot agree with, what is the point of having two drivers if you are going to favour one over the other.

If Bottas is winning the race, then it is up to Hamilton to catch him on his own merit, not making Bottas pull over so he can speed past him. That is my only gripe really.

I think it is safe to say that one of Hamilton, Bottas and Max Verstappen will win the Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton leads the standings with 94 points, while Verstappen is in second place with 80 points and Bottas is in third with 47.

I know looking at the points tally, Hamilton is miles ahead of Bottas, but what if the Finn was allowed to drive his own race? He could be leading the competition.

Hamilton has won three of the opening four races this season, with his only failure being the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. Because of his talent and team interference, I cannot see Hamilton not finishing first in Monaco, but that isn’t what I am going to concentrate on.

I know I have mentioned that the top three are streets ahead at the moment, so I am going to upset one of them by saying one of them will not finish on the podium. I am backing McLaren’s Lando Norris to upset the leading trio by getting a top-three finish for the second time this season.

Circuit Guide

The Circuit de Monaco is one of the most famous circuits in motorsport, with its 2.074-mile circuit running through the streets of the Monte Carlo area of Monaco. It makes the Monaco Grand Prix one of the most eagerly-anticipated races of the year with hardcore and casual fans both tuning in to see the stars race on the famous street circuit. “Driving around Monaco is hair-raising,” Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton once told The Telegraph. “It is the most hard-core rollercoaster you can really imagine. Braking for turn one is really hard, trying to find the turning point and big bumps on the way in. All the way up the hill is really exciting. You can’t see the next corner. This place is just incredible.” Graham Hill earned the nickname “Mr Monaco” when he won this race five times during the 1960s, but it is the legendary Ayrton Senna who boasts the Circuit de Monaco record with six successes between 1987 and 1993.
