F1 Italian Grand Prix Betting Tips & Predictions
Red Bull driver Verstappen can move a step closer to winning his second Formula One championship title in as many years at the Italian Grand Prix – and I fully expect him to do just that.
The Netherlands driver already has 10 wins under his belt – the same he collected last year when he won the championship – but he has never won at the Monza circuit.
The world champion’s chances of making it 11 wins in 2022 have been made a literally bit difficult after it was revealed he will start the race with a five-grid penalty.
He has changed the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) on his Red Bull to trigger the penalty, but I cannot see it hurting him too much. I still expect him to make up the ground and take the chequered flag in Italy.
Another driver with a penalty will be Lewis Hamilton. The former world champion, who has yet to win a race in 2022, will start from the back of a grid after he was found to be using too many engine parts.
The Mercedes driver was given his fourth power unit of the campaign, and F1 rules permit you can only use three. I expect Hamilton to move up the pack during the race, but he will not be finishing on the podium.
One person I do except to finish on the podium is Hamilton’s team-mate at Mercedes – George Russell. The British driver is going well this season, he is currently fourth overall and with a couple of more podium finishes he could finish in the top three.
He is in fourth place with zero wins and 188 points, while Charles LeClerc and Sergio Perez are joint second with 201 points.
Back Russell for a podium place alongside LeClerc of Ferrari.
Italian Grand Prix Preview: Circuit Guide
With the exception of a handful of races, the city of Monza has been the host site from the Italian Grand Prix since it was introduced back in 1921. It has been forced to undergo numerous changes over the years in an attempt to boost driver, staff and fan safety because the circuit has been the site of a string of incidents that have resulted in the deaths of over 80 people. But even after those changes, the Italian Grand Prix remains one of the races that produces the highest speeds of the Formula 1 season. Michael Schumacher had been the most successful driver in the history of the Italian Grand Prix prior to the 2018 season, but with his fifth career win that year Lewis Hamilton moved level with the German legend in the all-time race standings.
