Bookmaker Paddy Power has seemingly made the bold move in paying out winning bets on Manchester City winning the Premier League – despite them being just three points clear at the summit heading into Sunday’s trip to face title rivals Liverpool.
City have reeled off nine consecutive wins to edge three points clear of neighbours Manchester United, with a game in hand, and although that gap could be erased this weekend with a defeat to Liverpool, which would also see the Reds move within four points of them, Paddy Power believe it has seen enough.
As a result the Irish bookmaker has paid out early on City being crowned 2020/21 Premier League champions.*
“Three points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand, the Citizens have moved into ominous form – and odds-on in the betting – in recent weeks,” a spokesperson told BettingPro.com.
“Despite the topsy-turvy nature of this season, with at least five other teams being mooted as champions-elect as some point of the campaign, City are already 1/7 to win the Premier League. Another win on Sunday, at an out of sorts Liverpool, would put City as runaway leaders.
“We’ve paid out early on Manchester City winning the Premier League title, even before their visit to Liverpool. I can’t see what could possibly go wrong, it’s not like we’ve ever got any of these wrong before.”
