Bookmaker bet365 is offering all customers the chance to take out a little insurance on first goalscorer markets on any professional football match around the world and we've picked out our best first goalscorer tips for this weekend.
If your selected each-way first goal scorer fails to grab the opening goal of the game, but does manage to score later in the game, then bet365 will pay out at 1/3 odds for unlimited places.
How Does It Work?
Normally, you would back a player to score the first goal of the game. If he scored, your bet would win. If he didn’t the bet was lost. Well, bet365 has made that market a little bit more interesting. You can back your selected player to score the first goal, but if your selection is not on target you have more chances to win for the remainder of the game – as long as he scores.
For example, if you are wanting to bet on Manchester City versus Burnley this weekend, there are a number of first goal scorer options. Select Chris Wood to score the first goal of the game at 14/1. If you place £5 each way on this market, you will win £103.33 from your £10 stake if Wood gets the opener. If he fails to score first but scores after the first goal has been scored, bet365 will give you a pay-out of 1/3 of the odds. So, even if Wood fails to score first you still have a number of chances to win some money back.
When making your selection, make sure you click on the each way (EW) box to take advantage of this offer. There is also an option to make the bet void if your selected player does not start the match.
BettingPro’s Picks For March 14-15
Educated Prediction: Conor Chaplin to score the first goal of QPR v Barnsley @ 6/1 bet365
Barnsley are in desperate need of three points on Saturday when they travel to London to take on Queens Park Rangers. The Tykes are bottom of the Championship on goal difference and they are seven points from safety with nine games left to play. They have lost their last two matches against Reading and Cardiff City without scoring a goal, but they will take some comfort from the 5-3 win they got over QPR at Oakwell in December. Conor Chaplin was the hero for the Tykes that day as he scored a hat-trick, he has not scored in three games and we are backing him to hit the goal trail again with his 14th goal of the campaign.
Bold Prediction: Scott McTominay to score the first goal of Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United @ 16/1 bet365
Games are coming thick and fast for United as they look to secure a Champions League place for next season, win the FA Cup as well as looking to win the Europa League which will see them qualify for the Champions League anyway. United look in a good place at the minute with Bruno Fernandes and Fred running things in midfield. They have not lost since going down at home to Burnley and they beat rivals Manchester City 2-0 at the weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to handle his players carefully in the next few weeks and I expect Scott McTominay to get more game time as he continues his return from injury. I’m backing him to score the opener in this one, to add to the long-range effort he scored in the win against City.
