Bookmaker bet365 is offering all customers the chance to take out a little insurance on first goalscorer markets on any professional football match around the world and we've picked out our best first goalscorer tips for this weekend.
If your selected each-way first goalscorer fails to grab the opening goal of the game, but does manage to score later in the game, then bet365 will pay out at 1/3 odds for unlimited places.
How Does It Work?
Normally, you would back a player to score the first goal of the game. If he scored, your bet would win. If he did not the bet was lost. Well, bet365 has made that market a little bit more interesting with this each-way first goalscorer offer. You can back your selected player to score the first goal, but if your selection is not on target you have more chances to win for the remainder of the game – as long as he scores. This offer can be used to back the favourites of course, but it also makes backing an ‘outsider’ to break the deadlock more appealing.
For example, if you are wanting to bet on Manchester City v Burnley the likes of Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne would immediately spring to mind, but what about taking on an outsider to upstage them, only if for a few minutes? You could select Burnley forward Chris Wood to score the first goal of the game at odds of around 14/1 each-way. If you placed £5 each way on this market you would win £103.33 from your £10 stake if Wood got the opener, and if he failed to score first but netted later on in the game, bet365 would give you a pay-out of 1/3 of the odds. So, even if Wood failed to score first you would still have an opportunity to avoid a loss.
When making your selection, make sure you click on the each way (EW) box to take advantage of this offer, and it is also worth noting that there is an option to make the bet void if your selected player does not start the match. So what bet should you place this weekend? Read on for our selections…
BettingPro’s First Goalscorer Picks For Saturday, May 23
Best Bet: Erling Haaland – Wolfsburg v Borussia Dortmund @ 21/10
Teenage sensation Erling Haaland picked up from where he left off last weekend, setting Borussia Dortmund on their way to a commanding victory over Schalke and handing us a 7/1 winning bet in the process. The 19-year-old Norwegian has now scored 10 goals in nine Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund this season and in this sort of form it is simply impossible to overlook him as a First Goalscorer option for this weekend, especially against a Wolfsburg side who have not kept many clean sheets since the start of 2020.
Bold Prediction: Serge Gnabry – Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt @ 9/2
Robert Lewandowski delivered a winning bet a week ago when he broke the deadlock in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win at Union Berlin, but this offer does provide punters with an opportunity to consider less likely candidate at bigger odds. One player who certainly fits the bill for Bayern’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt is Serge Gnabry. The former Arsenal man was in fantastic form prior to the shutdown, scoring six goals in the space of four competitive fixtures, and he has already matched his personal best Bundesliga tally from 2016/17 when he netted 11 times for Werder Bremen. Goal number 12 and a personal best for Gnabry could come this weekend against a Frankfurt side who have had real problems keeping the ball out of their own net all season long.
