Bookmaker bet365 is offering all customers the chance to take out a little insurance on first goalscorer markets on any professional football match around the world and we've picked out our best first goalscorer tips for this weekend.
If your selected each-way first goal scorer fails to grab the opening goal of the game, but does manage to score later in the game, then bet365 will pay out at 1/3 odds for unlimited places.
How Does It Work?
Normally, you would back a player to score the first goal of the game. If he scored, your bet would win. If he didn’t the bet was lost. Well, bet365 has made that market a little bit more interesting. You can back your selected player to score the first goal, but if your selection is not on target you have more chances to win for the remainder of the game – as long as he scores.
For example, if you are wanting to bet on Sheffield United versus Brighton & Hove Albion, there are a number of first goal scorer options. Select Billy Sharp to score the first goal of the game at 5/1. If you place £5 each way on this market, you will win £43.33 from your £10 stake if Sharp gets the opener. If he fails to score first but scores after the first goal has been scored, bet365 will give you a pay-out of 1/3 of the odds. So, even if Sharp fails to score first you still have a number of chances to win some money back.
When making your selection, make sure you click on the each way (EW) box to take advantage of this offer. There is also an option to make the bet void if your selected player does not start the match.
BettingPro’s Picks For February 22-23
Educated Prediction: Cauley Woodrow to score the first goal of Barnsley vs Middlesbrough @ 5/1 bet365
Barnsley might be bottom of the Championship, but they have one of the best strikers in the division in their team. Former Fulham frontman Cauley Woodrow has scored 13 goals this season and he is not afraid of taking on the difficult shots, as he showed against his former club last weekend when he put the ball through the goalkeepers legs at an acute angle in their 3-0 win. Woodrow scored the opener last weekend and we are backing him to do the same against Boro as the Reds look to kick-on and attempt to get out of the Championship drop zone.
Bold Prediction: Harry Maguire to score the first goal of Manchester United vs Watford @ 25/1 bet365
Well it finally happened. After 26 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, Harry Maguire got on the score sheet in the league. Many people say he was lucky to be on the field when he scored the second goal in United’s win against Chelsea on Monday, but it counted anyway. It doesn’t matter if you are a striker or a defender, scoring goals gives you confidence. We are backing Maguire to score the opener against struggling Watford at the weekend as United look to climb the table with European qualification places still up for grabs.
