First Goalscorer betting on football remains very popular because even the most lethal of strikers are backable to decent odds. This market is available for matches in major competitions across the continent and BettingPro.com has been picking out our favourite First Goalscorer selections for the next few days.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Hertha Berlin v Eintracht Frankfurt (Friday 19:30 BST)
Dodi Lukebakio led an in-form attacking line as Hertha Berlin suffered a nine-goal thriller to Eintracht Braunschweig (5-4) in DFB Pokal and beat Werder Bremen (1-4) on the opening day of their Bundesliga campaign. They will want more and we do hope to see them in good spirits despite a shock Cup exit, as Bruno Labbadia’s men enjoy an attacking approach.
Eintracht Frankfurt managed to beat 1860 Munchen in DFB Pokal (1-2) but saw Arminia Bielefeld hold them to a 1-1 draw at Deutsche Bank Park, which will be worrying. They struggled defensively and we feel this could prove costly once again, as we back Hertha to secure the points and Lukebakio to open the scoresheet.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Lille v Nantes (Friday 20:00 BST)
Lille will be happy with their run early in the new Ligue 1 campaign but they felt far from impressive in the final third. They’ve had trouble scoring numbers of goals and we see this as another narrow contest in the making, as Christophe Galtier looks for fixes in the final third – despite bagging eight points in four games.
Jonathan David hasn’t been able to break his duck with Lille after what’s been a great pre-season for him, after joining from Gent in a €32m deal. We feel it’s only a time as the young Canadian striker looks great and very promising, which has Galtier trusting him with a leading role up front. We’ll back him to make the difference now as well, sticking our necks out for him to score first at 4/1!
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Eibar v Athletic Bilbao (Friday 20:00 BST)
Eibar and Athletic Bilbao have both struggled offensively early in the new campaign and we now expect a very narrow contest as the sides meet at Ipurua Municipal Stadium too. They’ve both had regrets early on and will be desperate to return to the winning ways here, which promises a tough contest on Friday evening.
However, we will now stick our necks out for a goalless contest and with that in mind, we’re also going for no goalscorer at 11/2. Both Mendilibar and Gaizka Garitano have had trouble finding a cure for their woes in the final third and we’re hoping this will show now as well, taking this as evidence for taking on such a bet.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Brighton v Manchester United (Saturday 12:00 BST)
Brighton play Manchester United at the Amex, with the Seagulls looking to pick up another victory and further add to the Red Devils poor start, in a tricky match for the Lancashire club. Brighton have scored ten goals in four matches, as Graeme Potter’s tactic off free-flowing have got his side off to a good start. Against a United side, who have been slow out of the blocks, they could catch them unawares and grab an early lead, as they did previously.
Brighton looked excellent on the counter against Newcastle, with Lamptey and Webster providing the runs from full-back, but it was Neal Maupay who starred with two early goals. The Frenchman looks in good form for the Seagulls and he might just be able to make the early difference here.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Torino v Atalanta (Saturday 14:00 BST)
After seeing their opening day trip to Lazio’s Olimpico postponed, Atalanta travel to Turin kicking it off against Torino on Saturday in hope they can build on a great pre-season campaign. La Dea have been furious up front and will want to show it off now as well, despite obviously a much tougher opposition this time around.
Duvan Zapata has been instrumental in the final third and we expect him leading the line once again. He’s shown off over the past two seasons and with no need to prove what he’s worth, we expect him very motivated to lead Atalanta to a title challenge. We’ll back Zapata to get off on the right foot and score first here, which comes at 3/1 and has caught the eye of many.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Augsburg v Borussia Dortmund (Saturday 14:30 BST)
Borussia Dortmund kept hold of their great form in the attacking third and bagged eight goals in their first two outings, as they outclassed MSV Duisburg (0-5) in DFB Pokal and sailed past Monchengladbach (3-0) in Bundesliga. They’ll now want more of the same and we expect an attacking approach in Augsburg as well.
Erling Haaland was impressive with Norway in early September and it was only to be expected he can show off early on in 2020/21. We feel the 20-year-old striker can build on the performance against Monchengladbach (where he bagged a brace) and we’ll back him to open the scoresheet on Saturday at 7/4! He’s been a cornerstone to their versatile attack and we feel it’s the best value to back Haaland as the first goalscorer.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Crystal Palace v Everton (Saturday 15:00 BST)
Palace v Everton is a cracking match-up based on current form, with both sides looking strong going forward. Matches previously between the teams have been deadlocked at Selhurst Park usually, but this time around, attacking play will come to the fore.
With that in mind, Wilfried Zaha is the choice for first scorer. He has hit three goals in two starts so far and has looked to be really on top of his game, especially in the win against Man United. The new found confidence in the side as a whole, seems to have really helped Zaha step up his game and it would not be surprise to seem him open the scoring once again.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Valencia v Huesca (Saturday 15:00 BST)
Valencia have seen a very busy and volatile summer and they certainly have a lot to prove in the new campaign. They have been scoring goals and played exciting football as they beat Levante (4-2) and saw a 2-1 loss at Celta Vigo, which promises them in good spirits despite unpredictable times at Mestalla Stadium.
Maxi Gomez led the attacking line and found the net on both of those occasions, getting off on the right foot and hoping to build on such performances. The 24-year-old returned from injury in great fashion and we hope he can keep it up, as we back Gomez to score first on Saturday at 9/2 as the best value in the market at this point.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: West Brom v Chelsea (Saturday 17:30 BST)
West Brom and Chelsea meet at the Hawthorns, with the Baggies facing another tough test, after losing to Leicester and Everton by three goal margins. Chelsea’s new stars are starting to settle, with Kai Havertz bagging a hat-trick in midweek, although Timo Werner still looks to be settling in to his new side.
Werner’s role up top, tends to drag him wide, as he chases down clearances and long passes, using his pace to great effect. Kai Havertz tends to be one of the first to arrive on the scene to fill the gap, when his international team-mate picks up possession, which gives Havertz plenty of opportunities to strike at goal. Having scored that hat-trick against Barnsley, his confidence will be sky high and he looks a good option to open the scoring in this match.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Marseille v Metz (Saturday 20:00 BST)
Marseille have seen trouble at Orange Velodrome and host Metz for their Matchday 5 clash on Saturday looking to end a streak of two games without a win. They were beaten by St Etienne (0-2) and held off by Lille (1-1) over the course of the last week and Andre Villas-Boas will want more from his men.
With the attacking line not really producing so far, we feel a lot will depend on how Florian Thauvin picks it up after a strong start in Ligue 1. Thauvin bagged two goals in four appearances so far and played an important part in wins over Brest (2-3) and PSG (0-1), which makes us hoping he’ll be crucial on the day. We’ll thus back him to score first and open the scoresheet at 10/3.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Sheffield United v Leeds United (Sunday 12:00 BST)
Leeds United visit Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United, with another competitive Yorkshire derby on the cards. The away sides have won in the last two meetings back in the 2018/19 season and it would not be a surprise to see something similar, with the Blades struggling in front of goal at the moment.
Helder Costa has been in good form and scored twice in the win over Fulham, but Patrick Bamford has looked the go to man so far, with goals in both league starts, as he keeps his place ahead of Rodrigo for the time being. The Blades defence have struggled so far and with Leeds bombing forward, Bamford to score first looks a good selection.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Tottenham v Newcastle United (Sunday 14:00 BST)
Tottenham take on Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the home side favourites to take the win, having bounced back from a defeat to Everton on the opening day. Newcastle’s injury issues caught up with them last weekend, when losing 3-0 to Brighton, although a 7-0 win over Morecambe in the cup, will at least have given them some confidence back
In terms of first scorer, Heung-Min Son is the goto man once again, having hit four against Southampton last week and scoring against Shkendija in midweek. The Korean is in superb form and is linking up with Harry Kane well, so an opener against Newcastle would be of little surprise.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Manchester City v Leicester City (Sunday 16:30 BST)
Manchester City take on Leicester City in this Premier League clash, with the home side favourites to take the three points against the Foxes. Pep Guardiola’s side have the last three meetings, with two of those resulting in 1-0 wins.
Gabriel Jesus has scored in the last two meetings against Leicester and looked sharp in the win at Wolves. He has six in the last nine games played and looks a strong selection to continue the run, as he leads the line in the absence of Sergio Aguero.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Crotone v Milan (Sunday 17:00 BST)
Milan travel to Crotone for their Matchday 2 clash on Sunday, just days after their Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt. They’ve been furious and connected a 19-game unbeaten streak since June, including eight wins in their last eight outings across competitions. Rossoneri will be without Ibrahimovic and Leao in the final third, though, which could dent their attacking potential.
Ante Rebic will return to the pitch after missing out on Thursday’s clash for suspension and we hope he’ll lead the line with great pace. We’ll back the Croatian winger to make the difference on Sunday afternoon and we’ll go for him to score first at 4/1, which looks like great value seeing he could be the main threat up front on the day.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Freiburg v Wolfsburg (Sunday 17:00 BST)
Freiburg bagged five goals in their first two competitive outings in 2020/21 and they host Wolfsburg in hope they can build on such performances, having beaten Waldhof Mannheim (1-2) in DFB Pokal and Stuttgart (2-3) in Bundesliga. They’ve seen goals coming from all directions and we now share the same hopes as we head into an exciting game at Schwarzwald Stadium.
Nils Petersen led the line and broke his duck last week, opening the scoresheet in Stuttgart. We hope to see him keep it up and we’ll now stick our necks out for Petersen to score first again, which comes at 13/2 and has caught the eye of many in the know already. He’s played an integral part of their attacking line last term and we’re now hoping for even more.
First Goalscorer Predictions & Tips: Real Valladolid v Celta Vigo (Sunday 17:30 BST)
Celta Vigo will be happy with the start of their La Liga campaign, where they held on to a point at Eibar (0-0) and beat Valencia (2-1) at home ground. They travel to Valladolid hoping to build on their four-point tally, led by in-form Iago Aspas and desperate for a strong start after a rather disappointing run last term.
Iago Aspas will be leading the attacking line at Jose Zorrilla Municipal Stadium and we’ll back him to build on a great display we’ve seen last week. We’ll thus go for Aspas to kick-start an exciting game of football and score first one the day, which can be backed at 4/1. He hasn’t been as impressive last term, collecting 14 league goals despite a record of 37 appearances with Celticos, which will make a strong start all the more important.
