Read on for our Champions League tips for week 1 of the round of 16 second leg ties between Leipzig & Spurs, Valencia & Atalanta, PSG & Dortmund and Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid.
Leipzig vs Tottenham Predictions & Betting Tips
RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Correct Score Prediction
RB Leipzig will be coming into this game with one foot in the final thanks to their deserved 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two weeks ago, in what is most likely the last knockout tie at the incredible new stadium until Anthony Joshua fights Kubrat Pulev there in June. Timo Werner’s penalty was enough for the German side to fly back to the Red Bull Arena with an important away win. Leipzig are unlikely to risk their away goal lead and chase the game with the same fearless aggression from the start, so we’re going to go with a low scoring game in the return leg, with a Leipzig 1-0 win the most likely outcome.
Other Leipzig vs Tottenham Tips
Despite scoring two goals against Wolves at home on Sunday in an end to end game, Tottenham’s lack of attacking options in the absence of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son is clear to see and even the most die-hard Spurs fan will struggle to see where the goals will come from in Germany. We’re going with a ‘Both Teams To Score: no’ prediction for this game as well.
Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham will be sitting deep and hoping to get that valuable goal on the counter-attack, but if they go one behind they’ll be forced to push on and can be exposed at the back. Leipzig have the quality to punish this Tottenham team later in the game so if our best bet to cover the 1-0 correct score prediction would be a Leipzig win and under 2.5 goals.
Valencia vs Atalanta Predictions & Betting Tips
Valencia vs Atalanta Correct Score Prediction
It would take a monumental effort for Valencia to turn this 4-1 deficit around, especially when you have to rely on scoring three or more goals against a team that has scored 7 goals on three occasions this season. Valencia’s form since the winter break will not give the Spanish side much confidence despite qualification from one of the toughest groups in this year’s Champions League competition. Atalanta only know one way to play and that is to go out and outscore the competition – something that they’ve done more often than not over the last couple of years, earning the hearts of the neutrals. We’re going with a 1-1 draw, with Valencia’s home advantage being enough to curtail yet another drubbing at the hands of Atalanta.
Other Valencia vs Atalanta Tips
As we’ve already mentioned, this Atalanta side only knows one way to play and that is a free-flowing attacking style that, although devastating going forward, definitely gives the opposition chances at the other end. If you’re confident that the game is going to be a higher-scoring encounter than 1-1, our best bet would be a BTTS & Draw. Atalanta already hold a 3-goal advantage and away from home, they’ll be more than happy to cancel out their Valencia’s goals scored.
Josep Ilicic has shown no signs of slowing down and is producing his best football at the tail-end of his career in a system designed to get the most out of their flair players. With 15 goals in Serie A this season and a goal in the first-leg, Ilicic will fancy his chances to score again as Valencia open up looking to attack the Italians. PSG vs Borrussia Dortmund Prediction & Tips
PSG vs Dortmund Correct Score Prediction
Without doubt the story of this year’s Champions League so far is the emergence of Dortmund’s former Salzburg frontman Erling Haaland, and he stole the show with both of the 2 goals required to give BVB the slight advantage they’re taking to Paris. Considering the investment in the club over the last decade or so and the talent in their squad, PSG have under-achieved in their hunt for Champions League glory so far. Whether the lack of competitive games in Ligue 1 leaves them unequipped when facing tougher competition in Europe or the team spirit required is their downfall, we’ll leave that to you to decide, but it certainly hasn’t worked in Europe. We’re going for a 2-1 win for Borussia Dortmund as the Black & Yellow outfit punish PSG with their host of young attacking players as the Parisians look to eliminate the deficit – although they certainly have the players to win any game with Mbappe and Neymar players that would start for every club in the world.
Other PSG vs Dortmund Tips
With squads with the quality of Mbappe, Neymar, Icardi, Di Maria, Cavani, Haaland, Sancho, Reus, Hazard, Brandt, Hakimi and much more on show, BTTS (both teams to score) seems an absolute certainty. Despite a cagey first half in the Westfalenstadion, the game came to life in the second half and has set up a mouth-watering second leg in Paris. It could be a pinball-game of end-to-end attacking football. In this case, we’re favouring Dortmund’s young, energetic flair over PSG’s superstar talent but it’s definitely the most exciting spectacle for the neutral.
Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid Prediction & Tips
Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid Correct Score Prediction
Without doubt, Jurgen Klopp has propelled this Liverpool side’s return to the top of the world football’s elite with their mammoth points tally, win percentage, and efficiency this season – but the club have shown frailties and perhaps signs of fatigue in recent weeks. Atletico Madrid are a side in transition and are definitely performing like a side in transition – uninspiring would be the word best suited to their league form this season. Simeone, however, masterminded the perfect gameplan to contain the reds in the opening leg, but doing so at Anfield will be a different beast altogether – you only have to ask a certain Spanish team what it’s like to defend a first-leg deficit at Anfield under the lights. We’re backing Liverpool’s romance with European comebacks to prevail once more with a 3-1 home win enough to see them through.
While we’re backing Liverpool to win at home – they have proven shaky at the back in recent times and Atletico Madrid showed a few signs in the first leg that they could get at the Liverpool back four on the break – just as West Ham and Watford (5 goals combined) have managed to do so recently. With that being said, we still think Liverpool will outscore their opposition and our best bet is a BTTS home win.
