Energetik-BGU Minsk v FC Minsk (12:00 BST)

Two teams with 100% records kick off Sunday’s action in the Belarusian top flight, with second-place Energetik-BGU Minsk playing host to table-toppers FC Minsk. Energetik-BGU came roaring out of the blocks with an impressive 3-1 win at home to BATE Borisov on opening weekend, and they followed that up one weekend later with a solid victory at FK Ruh Brest. FC Minsk, meanwhile, followed up a 3-1 victory at Belshina with a derby success against Dinamo Minsk, and the goals have been flowing for the visitors because they have now netted three times in each of their first two games. However, I find myself leaning towards the hosts here. Energetik-BGU have been solid at the back so far and were unbeaten against FC Minsk last season, following up a 3-3 draw at home with a sensational 6-1 rout a couple of months later. I am backing them to get the better of the visitors once again here.

FC Vitebsk v Smolevichi (14:00 BST)

Vitebsk were unable to build on the opening-day win over Gorodeya as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Neman Grodno a week ago, and they will be eager to bounce back from that loss at the first attempt as they try to avoid another battle against relegation this season. Visitors Smolevichi, meanwhile, are aiming to avoid an immediate return to the second tier and while they are winless through two games, they have proven that they will not be an easy team to dispatch, following up a more than creditable 1-1 draw at champions Dinamo Brest with a slender defeat at Isloch last time out. It is that result that concerns me most when it comes to their chances of winning here – their away form during the final few months of last season was not the greatest and that loss was a sign that it could continue here. Therefore I am backing the home side for the win on Sunday.

Isloch v FC Slutsk (16:00 BST)

Isloch have put their cup disappointment behind them by opening their league campaign with back-to-back 1-0 home wins over Neman Grodno and Smolevichi, but can they make it three home wins on the bounce when FC Slutsk come to town in the final game of the weekend? The visitors kicked off the season with a 3-1 win at home to Slavia before falling to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of champions Dinamo Brest, so they have made a pretty solid start to the campaign as they look to improve on last season’s 11th place finish. There is no way that I can go against Isloch though – they have proven to be adept at grinding out points over the past 12 months and I expect them to come out on top in another close, low-scoring encounter here.
