Well, it has finally happened. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was under so much pressure at Manchester United you had to feel sorry for the man. After getting embarrassed 4-1 at Watford, the powers-that-be decided enough was enough and they sacked him on Sunday. Will United get a full-time replacement in now, or will they go for a stop-gap appointment until the end of the season. This page will focus on the next manager to be sacked, as well as who will be the new Manchester United manager.
The Sack Race: Next Premier League Manager To Leave
Brendan Rodgers (Leicester City)
You might think this one is strange, but it really isn’t. This wouldn’t be the next manager sacked, it would be the next one to leave his post. Rodgers has been heavily linked with replacing Solskjaer – something he has admitted was a little bit disrespectful. I personally do not think Rodgers is the man to be in the Old Trafford hotseat – but the odds do not lie. The Leicester City boss is 5/2 with Sky Bet to leave the Foxes, while he is 9/2 to take over permanently.
Rafael Benitez (Everton)
I have included Rafa Benitez in this list right from the beginning. A lot of Everton fans cannot get over the fact that Benitez used to manage fierce rivals Liverpool. They are blindsided by this and have written him off right from the start. Unfortunately for Rafa, results do not lie. He is struggling at the moment, will Everton pull the trigger and get rid of him next?
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
I have included a new candidate on the list this week. To be honest, we all though Hasenhuttl would have been sacked during his first season. But it looked like he finally got his team playing the way he wants. Unfortunately for the Saints chief, he has been thrown into the mix because all the main contenders have already been sacked. He has been thrust into the spotlight because his team lost to Norwich City, but I cannot see him getting the boot just yet.
No Manager To Leave
The odds on this one are very high for the plain and simple fact that we will not end the current Premier League with the same managers in the same jobs. It’s a fun bet to back, but realistically there will be plenty of movement between now and May.
Next Permanent Manchester United Manager
Mauricio Pochettino
It seems that every time United are looking for a new manager, Mauricio Pochettino’s name gets thrown into the mix. For some reason the former Spurs manager is highly rated at Old Trafford despite only winning one major trophy in his career. That being the Coupe de France – not the biggest trophy to be honest, but silverware nonetheless. Will he finally get that dream move to Old Trafford?
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers has been constantly linked with being the next Manchester United manager. Is it the right fit? I don’t think it is. Rodgers has quality players at Leicester, and he struggles to get them all performing on a consistent basis. Will he be able to control the likes of Ronaldo, Bruno and Pogba? I don’t think he can. Time will tell.
