Werder Bremen outclassed Koln (6-1) on the final day of the campaign and capitalized on Fortuna’s home loss, jumping the rivals to the Relegation Play-offs spot and now hosting Heidenheim in hope they can save the top-flight status. Osako (x2), Rashica, Fullkrug, Klaassen, and Sargent all made it on the scoresheet and Die Werderaner have a lot to build on. They struggled defensively and dropped many important points beforehand – inconsistency which will prove worrying for the fans. Heidenheim travel to Weserstadion in hope they can capitalize despite disappointing displays on the road lately. They finished the campaign just a point clear of Hamburger SV after seeing a 3-0 loss at table-toppers Arminia Bielefeld on the final day of the campaign. Frank Schmidt has to work on his men’s team spirits but with a top-flight promotion under their noses, the task should not be a tough one.
