The greatest rivalry in darts history is set to be resumed as Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld collide in a special online challenge match.
With 21 world titles between them, Taylor and Barney are two of the most iconic figures ever to grace the oche and have contested some of the sport’s most memorable matches.
The duo contested a total of 83 matches between 1990 and 2017, including the infamous 2007 World Championship final which was won by Van Barneveld in a sudden death leg.
Despite both having retired from professional competition in recent years, the competitive instinct remains strong, and the pair have agreed to a special soft-tip show-down to raise money to support NHS workers.
Where is Phil Taylor vs Raymond van Barneveld taking place?
Taylor and Van Barneveld will face off on the Target Nexus board, which allows players to compete online from remote locations.
Both players will be playing from home and will be able to see and interact with each other via the live camera function on the Nexus.
The format will be first to seven legs with traditional 501 down rules.
In a recent newspaper interview, Taylor said: “Everyone is craving some live sport at these difficult times.
“And maybe we can lighten the mood of the UK public and also make money for worthwhile charities.
“I always love playing Barney, we have had some incredible battles down the years, and though we wouldn’t be in the same room, it would still be competitive as ever.”
When is Phil Taylor vs Raymond van Barneveld taking place?
The match will take place live from 7pm BST on Thursday April 9.
The challenge match is being organised by Target Darts – the official equipment manufacturer of both Taylor and Van Barneveld, and bookmaker Paddy Power – who are donating £1,000 to charity for every 180 hit.

Phil Taylor vs Raymond van Barneveld Tips
This is a fixture which has captivated the darting audience for decades and to this day, it remains a huge box office draw.
Since stepping away from the PDC circuit, Taylor and Van Barneveld have continued to face off regularly in exhibition matches across the UK and Europe, pulling in big crowds.
This, however, will be the first time the pair have locked horns on a soft-tip board, which is somewhat different to a traditional steel-tip board on which they made their names.
The size of the trebles are bigger, though bullseye is the preferred target to the treble 20 as the outer bull also counts as 50 points.
It’s clear Taylor has had a psychological advantage over Barney down the years and has dominated the head-to-heads, winning 61 of their meetings to the Dutchman’s 18, in addition to four draws.
Taylor won six of their last seven professional encounters and remains a formidable force on the oche, having notably faced his other Dutch rival Michael van Gerwen in a best-of-19 challenge match last December.
Taylor has also travelled as far as Japan to compete in soft-tip tournaments in recent years, taking on some of Asia’s biggest soft-tip stars and more often than not, beating them.
Van Barneveld resigned his PDC Tour Card at the end of last season and is less accustomed to the soft-tip side of the game, giving ‘The Power’ a distinct advantage heading into this one.
Barney has also been competing in the Icons of Darts League this week and has shown little sign of the old spark which led him to become an all-time, losing all eight of his match against non Tour Card holders.
It’s no surprise that the bookmakers have installed 16-time World Champion Taylor as favourite here, and it’s difficult to envisage his old rival taking the spoils.
