2023 Premier League Darts Tips and Predictions

The line-up for the 2023 Cazoo Premier League has been finalised with newly crowned Masters winner Chris Dobey included for the first time.

The Newcastle thrower defeated former World Champion Rob Cross in the Cazoo Masters Final on Sunday to win his first TV title, he will now go up against seven quality players with the first week taking place on Thursday in Belfast.

Defending champion Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price are the top four seeds with Jonny Clayton also involved.

Belgium’s Dimitri van den Bergh and Nathan Aspinall complete the star-studded line-up which will continue on a weekly basis until week 17 with the Final being held at The O2 Arena in London on Thursday, May 25.

It would be great if Dobey could win the Premier League in his first season, but the serious money would be on either Van Gerwen or World Champion Smith to lift the title. Smith is full of confidence at the moment, and I am backing him to add the Premier League to his long-growing list of title wins.

What is the format for the Premier League of Darts?

The Cazoo Premier League returns this year with the same format as last season.

The Premier League will see eight players go head-to-head in 16 mini-events before a play-off series will determine the new champion.

The Premier League will still be played in 17 arenas across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Germany this year and offer a bumper, increased £1 million prize fund.

The tournament will see eight players compete with 16 league nights being individual events with a quarter-final, semi-final and final over the best of 11 legs. The winner of each night will also receive a £10,000 bonus.

Ranking points will be awarded during each night. Five points will go to the winner, three to the runner-up and two to the losing semi-finalists. The points will be added to a league table with the top four qualifying for the play-offs.

Across the 16 weeks, players will face each other twice in a quarter-final tie to form the draw for 14 nights, with the additional two nights (night eight and night 16) seeing the stars face off again in a draw bracket based on the league table following night seven and night 15 respectively.

Format

Each night will see quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final played over the best of 11 legs (first to six).
Each player will meet the other seven players twice over the course of the season in a quarter-final game, plus two further nights will feature additional fixtures in the same format.

League Points

Night Winner – 5 points + £10,000 bonus
Runner-Up – 3 points
Semi-Finalists – 2 points

Who Will Lift the Trophy

Backing your favourite player to win the trophy is probably the most popular market out there. This market is plain and simple. Just select which player you feel will win the competition, find the best odds, place your bets and watch all the action unfold.

Treble Boost

Sky Bet have thrown their weight behind PDC darts events over the years, and the Premier League Darts will be no different. They like to have a Treble Boost available on most matches. This allows you to back your selected player to win the match, hit the most 180s and get the highest overall checkout.

Most 180s

If you do not fancy risking your money on the Treble Boost, backing your selected player just to hit the most 180s is also available. You might be backing someone like Ryan Searle in a TV event, but you cannot see him hitting the big checkouts. Improve your chances by just backing ‘Heavy Metal’ to hit the most maximums.
