Sri Lanka vs West Indies Preview: 2nd T20 Predictions & Betting Tips
Friday, March 6 – 13:30 GMT – Pallekele International Stadium, Sri Lanka
West Indies are 1-0 up in their two-match Twenty20 series after a 25-run victory over Sri Lanka in their first game on Tuesday.
The tourists elected to bat first and Lendl Simmons and Brandon King put on an opening wicket partnership of 74 before King was caught by Wanindu Hasaranga off the bowling of Lakshan Sandakan for 33.
Simmons was the main stay of the West Indies innings, he batted through the full 20 overs as he made 67 from 51 deliveries with seven fours and two sixes.
He was helped along by Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard who hit 35 and 34 respectively as the tourists posted a decent total of 196-4.
Sri Lanka had it all to do if they were to chase this score down. Their innings didn’t get off to the best of starts as they found themselves 17-3 with Avishka Fernando removed for just seven and Shehan Jayasuriya and Kusal Mendis were sent packing with a Golden Duck and a second ball duck respectively – all three wickets were taken by Oshane Thomas
They faced an uphill battle now, Kusal Perea did his best to get the hosts over the line as he made 66 runs from 38 balls – hitting six fours and three sixes. But he as the seventh wicket to go down as he was cleaned bowled by Russell.
The dismissal of Perea spelled the end for Sri Lanka, they managed to add another 20 runs for the remaining three wickets as they fell short of their total by 25 runs with five balls remaining.
The pick of the bowlers for West Indies was Thomas as he ended up with figures of 5-28 off just three overs as he ripped through the upper order.
That win will have given the West Indies a lot of confidence, considering they were embarrassed 3-0 in their recent ODI series. I’m going for the tourists to end this tour on a high with a second successive victory over Sri Lanka.
Winning games is the best medicine for any sports team, this will have boosted the West Indies considerably. I just think they will take a lot of heart from the way they battled for this victory and they will take it to the next level in the second game.
West Indies have got some quality batsman in their line-up. The likes of Simmons, King, Russell and Pollard are capable of big scores, but their main weapon is their bowling attack.
Thomas was in scintillating form in the first game with his five-wicket haul, while he was backed up by the likes of Sheldon Cottrell, Russell, Dwayne Bravo and Powell. I’m backing Thomas to do the business once again and back him as the leading wicket taker for the tourists.
