England will be looking to secure a Test series win over Sri Lanka when the second Test takes place from January 22-26 in Galle. Can England win the series, or will Sri Lanka improve dramatically?
Sri Lanka v England 2nd Test Betting Tips & Predictions: Match Winner
Suicidal batting from Sri Lanka in the first innings left them with an uphill battle in the first Test, and England eventually sealed seven-wicket success. After bowling out the hosts for 135, England took full control by posting 421 with captain Joe Root leading the way with a double century. Sri Lanka put up more of a fight in the second inning, but it was all in vain as by the time England batted again, they only needed 74 to win and they knocked that off for the loss of three wickets. Conditions were difficult for England, but they handed them quite well – helped by a poor Sri Lankan first innings – and I expect Root and his boys to turn the screw and win the second Test and claim a whitewash series win.
Sri Lanka v England 2nd Test Betting Tips & Predictions: England Top Batsman 1st Innings
Whenever England need a big total – or runs to save a Test – then captain Joe Root is the man to call upon. The 30-year-old Sheffield-born batsman batted patiently in the first Test, as he posted 228 from 321 balls with one maximum and 18 fours. He was well supported by the likes of Daniel Lawrence (73), Jonny Bairstow (47) and Jos Buttler, but it was Root who claimed all the headlines. He failed in the second innings, as he was run out for just one, but that was a little blip, and I am backing him to once again top score for the tourists in their first innings and add to the eight thousand Test runs he has already scored.
Sri Lanka v England 2nd Test Betting Tips & Predictions: England Top Bowler 1st Innings
I had backed Jimmy Anderson to take the most wickets for England during the first Test, but he was left out of the side and didn’t bowl a single ball. England correctly felt that the wicket would offer a lot of turn, so they went for Jack Leach and Dom Bess – who collected 14 wickets between them in the whole game. Stuart Broad and Mark Wood found the conditions hard, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Anderson replaced one of them. Leach will admit he didn’t bowl fantastic but considering he had been out of action for a long time, taking five wickets in the second Innings was very impressive. He looked like he was getting into a rhythm, so I am backing Leach to take the most first innings wickets for England.
