New Zealand v India 2nd Test Predictions & Betting Tips

Thursday, February 28 – March 4 – 22:30 GMT – The Hagley Oval, New Zealand

New Zealand romped to massive 10 wicket win over the tourists in the first Test as the Black Caps steamrolled their Indian counter-parts. A rather pathetic score of 165 from India in their first innings was not ever going to be enough to build a lead as Tim Southee (4/49) proved to be the architect of the touring team’s downfall. Then, home captain Kane Williamson knocked a fine score of 89 to drag the side to 348 all out, a lead of 182. While chasing down this score did not ever seem beyond India considering the power in their batting lineup, their first innings score was always going to weigh heavily on their minds, and so it proved, as the side once again collapsed to 191 all out, setting New Zealand a winning total of nine, which they sauntered to without losing a wicket. While many had predicted a close series that India would edge, few would have given New Zealand much of a chance of winning by near-enough an innings, with Williamson’s side far, far better than India across the course of the first Test.

In this one, the pressure will be quite evenly distributed across the two sides, with the home side looking to match the intensity of the first Test as they look to seal a series win, while India surely cannot be any worse than they were in the first match, although if they are, the selectors will surely not take it lying down. While India will likely come back hard in this one, New Zealand are not a side that are easy to beat at home, with the side playing the conditions perfectly more than once this year, with England also coming to New Zealand and leaving with a series loss to their names. However, while we would lean towards a New Zealand win in this one, we are actually not backing either side to win the match, with the weather something we have a keen eye on. According to some forecasts, sun and rain is forecast for Saturday through to Monday, while rain is predicted on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the weather is to be leaning towards rain in Christchurch, then we would not look to back either of the two.

As far as player betting goes, we were hugely impressed with the exploits of Tim Southee with the ball in the first Test. The bowler blew India’s batting lineup to pieces in a supreme display of fast bowling. Trent Boult was another that impressed us as he took five wickets in the match but we feel that Southee will be the man to once again snare the most Indian wickets and add to the superb nine he took in the first Test.
