England fell to a humiliating innings and 65 run defeat in the first Test against New Zealand as the Black Caps exacted some revenge for their heartbreaking World Cup final defeat to the English in the summer. A double-hundred from BJ Watling and 126 from Mitchell Santner broke the back of the English resilience as New Zealand declared on 615/9 in reply to England’s 353 before the tourists collapsed to an abysmal score of 197 to cap off a sub-standard performance.

While Watling was one of the stars of the show with his double hundred we wonder whether he will be able to replicate this sort of form consistently, while the likes of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor both batting in the side make the proposition of him top scoring at 15/2 very risky.

Instead, we are looking to back the star man with the ball for the Black Caps. Neil Wagner tore through England with match figures of 8-134 which saw him roll England over as he made the most of the rough patches that appeared on the pitch as England toiled on day five. At 10/3 to take the most wickets for New Zealand with Paddy Power, we are confident the spinner will be in the wickets once again for his side.

As far as a winner goes, we are backing this one to go New Zealand’s way once again. The Black Caps looked superb with the bat as they put 201 overs into England’s legs before getting them in a real spin with the ball. While Joe Root’s men will do everything they can to ensure they don’t come away from the tour with a 2-0 loss, we can see Williamson’s men putting the hurt on the touring side.
