India v England 4th Test Betting Tips & Predictions

Dave Kuzio:
India v England Test Cricket

Following the shambles of the third Test, England will be looking to win the fourth and final Test and level the series against India. Will the Ahmedabad pitch once again be a lottery, or will England find away to play it from March 4-8?

India v England 4th Test Betting Tips & Predictions: Match Winner

I need to get something off my chest. That third Test in Ahmedabad was an absolute farce, for a Test match to finish after two days in 2021 is not acceptable. That pitch was not what fans want to see, that pitch was designed to benefit spin bowlers – something India have an abundance of – and it worked as they skittled England out for 112 and 81. This is not just speaking as an England fan, this comes from a cricket fan. Test cricket will die if games are ending after two days. Something needs to be done, but unfortunately nothing will. The fourth and final Test will again be played at Ahmedabad, and I am expecting another pitch that benefits the slow bowlers. England captain Joe Root will probably play both Jack Leach and Dom Bess, and use himself as a third spinner, but I still don’t think that will be enough. Axar Patal took six wickets in the first innings and five in the second innings to end with match figures of 11-70, while took seven wickets in the match overall. These two will be key for India, and I am backing them to win this Test and seal a 3-1 series win.

It’s safe to say that there will be plenty of turn and dust on this pitch at the start of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad – unless the Indian ground staff have a change of heart and make it more batsman friendly, but that isn’t going to happen. The seems bowlers might get a little bit of success out of the pitch, but all eyes will be on what the spinners can produce. Axar Patel surprised everyone in what was only his second ever Test match. He turned the England batsmen inside out by collecting figures of 6-38 in the first innings, before again causing damage with five more scalps in the second innings. His place in the side was never guaranteed, but taking 11 wickets in one match will ensure he features against England, and I am backing him to be the hero again by taking the most first innings wickets for the hosts.

Selecting just one full-time spinner on that pitch in Ahmedabad was England’s first mistake, playing like deer in the headlights was their second. Dom Bess was not picked for the Test as Joe Root just went with Jack Leach and then brought himself on when things were not going to plan. Root is not bad for a part-time bowler, but he is not going to win you Test matches with the ball in his hand. Root needs to select two spinners and bring himself on when needed, so I am backing Bess to be the pick of England’s spinners. He would have been frustrated to be left out on a pitch that was doing a lot, so he will be eager to prove he is the best bowler England has. Back him to take the most wickets in the first innings to take add to the five he has taken.
