Australia vs New Zealand Preview: 2nd ODI Predictions & Betting Tips
Saturday, March 14 – 11:30 GMT – Sydney Cricket Cround, Sydney, Australia
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh were the pick of the bowlers as Australia secured a 71-run win over New Zealand in the opening game of the Chappell-Hadlee series in Sydney.
Australia won the toss on Friday and opted to bat first. They got off to a good start with David Warner and Aaron Finch putting on 124 for the first wicket, before Warner was removed for 67 off the bowling of Lockie Ferguson.
Finch was the next to go for 60, and although the likes of Steve Smith and D’Arcy Short failed to get going with 14 and 5 respectively, Marnus Labuschagne helped steady the ship with 56 from 52 deliveries.
Marsh helped the total along with 27 off 34 balls before falling to Ish Sodhi as Australia posted a total of 258-7 off their 50 overs.
It was New Zealand’s turn to bat, and they lost their first wicket in the 10th over as Henry Nicholls was caught by Alex Carey off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood for just 10.
Kane Williamson came in next and he was removed for 19 as he was clean bowled by Adam Zampa, while Ross Taylor became Marsh’s first victim for just four as the Black Caps slumped to 69-3.
Opener Guptil departed on 40 with Cummins striking for his first wicket before claiming his second as James Neesham edged a delivery behind to Carey as the tourists were now 96-5.
Australia were in full control now and Marsh picked up the wickets of Mitchell Santner and Ferguson to produce figures of 3-29 off seven overs, while Cummins brought the innings to a close with a caught and bowled effort to remove Trent Boult for five as New Zealand were all out for 187 with nine overs still to be bowled.
This match was played behind closed doors because of the current outbreak of COVID-19, and the second one will be the same as Australia go in search of a series win following their recent hammering in South Africa.
I cannot see Australia having any real problems in the second ODI. They looked comfortable with the bat, while they have at least five top-class bowlers capable of skittling out New Zealand cheaply.
I’m backing Australia to win this game with Aaron Finch set to continue his fine form with the willow as Australia’s top scorer with the bat. I’m also backing Pat Cummins to take control with the ball and be the number one bowler in this game.
