England are on the verge of a series whitewash defeat at the hands of Australia – and for once I don’t think they are that bothered about it.
Don’t get me wrong, they do care and want to win, but this series should not have taken place so soon after the T20 World Cup.
England won the T20 World Cup, but they have not had a chance to celebrate. They should be at home with their loved ones celebrating their amazing achievement. Instead, they have had to remain in Australia for an unnecessary three-game ODI series.
Australia are 2-0 up in the series and they would love to make it three. England have yet to name a full-strength team, so it still feels like they are going through the motions and are counting down the hours until they are on that long flight home.
Steve Smith has been in great form. He looks like he is enjoying his cricket again, and that is good for everyone. He has managed to score 174 runs in two matches, and I am backing him to top-score once again.
For England, it’s difficult to know what team Jos Buttler will select. I am backing Dawid Malan to add to the 134 runs he has already scored, but it will be in vain as Australia will win the game.
