FIVB Women's Club World Championship History

The FIVB Women's Club World Championship was first played in São Paulo in 1991 as a tournament pitting the best volleyball clubs across the world. The second edition was held in 1992 followed by another tournament in 1994 before it was discontinued. The competition was revived in 2010 and has been held annually since.

In 2016, the competition was expanded from six to eight teams. Originally, the champion clubs of Asia, Africa, Europe and South America get to play in this tournament along with several wildcards but this composition isn't strictly followed.

Turkish club Eczacibasi VitrA became the first team to win this tournament twice after beating Italian side Casalmaggiore in five sets in last season's final in the Philippines.
