Chelsea were being battered by PSG in the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night and Jon Obi Mikel was having an awful night at the heart of midfield. The Nigerian was struggling to contain the PSG midfield, had been booked and had given away a free kick within shooting range.
To compound matters, Zlatan Ibrahimovic took the free kick, it deflected off Mikel and went beyond Thibaut Courtois into the Chelsea goal to give the French side a well deserved 1-0 lead.
However, one punter saw something in Mikel and felt that the 28-year-old was due some redemption. He duly placed a £5 bet on the midfielder to score the next goal at odds of 100/1. Lo and behold, Mikel stepped up and fired in Chelsea's equaliser just before half-time, landing what was one of the most audacious bets of the season.
To put the bet into context, the goal was Mikel's first of the season, and his sixth goal in his ten year Chelsea career. What a bet!
