Valentina Shevchenko v Liz Carmouche predictions and more for UFC on ESPN+ 14 on Saturday, August 10. Can Valentina Shevchenko avenge a 2010 defeat to Liz Carmouche when the two women meet again at the UFC’s first ever event in Uruguay? Read on for our free predictions and betting tips for UFC on ESPN+ 14.

Valentina Shevchenko v Liz Carmouche

Valentina Shevchenko suffered the first defeat of her professional career when the doctor stopped her C3 Fights clash with Liz Carmouche back in September 2010, but after an almost nine-year wait the 31-year-old Kyrgyzstani will have an opportunity to avenge that defeat on August 10 and she is widely expected to do just that. Since that night Shevchenko has suffered just two defeats – both of which came at the hands of pound-for-pound number one Amanda Nunes – and she has established herself as the number one flyweight by besting Joanna Jedrzejczyk over five rounds and then stopping Jessica Eye within two rounds back in June. Carmouche, meanwhile, has gone 8-6 since than first meeting and while at first glance that is not an impressive record, it must be taken into consideration that in that time she faced a who’s who of fighters, including Marloes Coenan, Miesha Tate and an at-her-peak Ronda Rousey. The 35-year-old deserves respect, but Shevchenko has grown in leaps and bounds since that first encounter and in her last two fights she has shown that all-round game that suggests she could reign over the flyweight ranks for a long time to come. Her reign should continue on Saturday night, but I expect Carmouche to stick around for the full five rounds. She has been stopped just twice in career, both times via submission, and the last of those stoppage defeats came over six years ago at the hands of armbar ‘queen’ Rousey.

Vicente Luque v Mike Perry

Mike Perry’s career has stalled over the past couple of years and he now goes into UFC on ESPN+ 14 having gone 2-3 in his last five fights. He rebounded from the submission defeat to Donald Cerrone last November by earning a unanimous decision win over Alex Oliveira in April, but I do not expect him to record back-to-back victories for the first time in two years and neither do the bookmakers. Perry’s record against ranked fighters leaves a lot to be desired and Vicente Luque has stormed into the top 15 thanks to a five-fight win streak. He has showcased his all-round game in that time, stopping four opponents via strikes and the other via submission, and I believe we will see another stoppage success for Luque here.

Volkan Oezdemir v Ilir Latifi

Volkan Oezdemir was riding high when he took just 42 seconds to knock out Jimi Manuwa and land a shot at the light-heavyweight title, but since then it has been all downhill for the 29-year-old Swiss fighter. He was dominated and stopped in seven minutes when he challenged Daniel Cormier for the title, and after tapping out to Anthony Smith several months later he dropped a split decision to Dominick Reyes. Simply put, Oezdemir needs to stop the rot at the expense of Ilir Latifi on Saturday night – but can he? I believe he will. Latifi may be up to ninth in the rankings, but he is yet to get the better of a top-15 fighter and he has gone 2-2 in his last four fights. The Swede has also been knocked out three times in his career, so at this point he could be the perfect opponent for Oezdemir, who can get back to winning ways with the 12th KO/TKO success of his career.
