Cub Swanson v Artem Lobov predictions & betting tips
Cub Swanson has rebounded from those back-to-back submission defeats to Frankie Edgar and Max Holloway by reeling off three straight decision victories to put himself back in the featherweight title picture, and he will be aiming to make it four-in-a-row when he takes on Conor McGregor’s sparring partner, Artem Lobov, on Saturday night.
Why the Russian is main-eventing a UFC card is beyond me – he has a dismal 13-12-1 professional record, with one No Contest, and he has gone 2-2 since arriving in the UFC and he has not faced one notable opponent. In fact, Lobov has never faced an opponent of Swanson’s calibre in his entire career and while he does boast finishing power, to put it quite bluntly, he is out of his depth.
Swanson is one of the best featherweight fighters on the planet – he is accurate with his strikes and boasts good skills on the ground so he is comfortable in all areas. Lobov has been stopped via strikes just once in his career, back in September 2011, and I expect Swanson to become the second man to stop him in that way. ‘Killer’ will break down the Russian with accurate striking and finish the fight.
John Dodson v Eddie Wineland predictions & betting tips
John Dodson is looking to build up some momentum after two defeats in his last three fights, but if he wants to boost his chances of landing a bantamweight title shot he is going to have to beat hard-hitting Eddie Wineland, who has climbed into the top 10 with back-to-back stoppage wins over Frankie Saenz and Takeya Mizugaki.
This is sure to be an entertaining showdown between two men with very high knockout rates, and with both men boasting great takedown defence this fight is unlikely to hit the mat. They will stand and trade for as long as this fight lasts, but ultimately there can only be one winner and I am backing Dodson to get the job done.
‘The Magician’ is a much more accurate striker than Wineland and that will be the telling factor here, with Dodson stopping Wineland with strikes – probably in the second half of the fight.
Joe Lauzon v Stevie Ray predictions & betting tips
Stevie Ray rebounded from his first UFC defeat by edging split decision win over the experienced Ross Pearson last time out, and next up for him is another meeting with another experienced campaigner in Joe Lauzon.
‘The Human Bonus Machine’ has been fighting in the UFC for over a decade with mixed results, but on Saturday night I expect him to prevent ‘Braveheart’ from building up some steam in the lightweight division.
The last time Ray faced a grappler he was absolutely dominated and when it comes to the ground game, Lauzon is incredibly proficient and aggressive. He will take Ray to the mat and from there he will force Ray to tap out, sealing the 19th submission victory of his professional career.
