UFC London predictions for Saturday, March 17. Will Alexander Volkov claim the biggest scalp of his career when he takes on former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, and can Jimi Manuwa return to winning ways on home soil? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips for UFC London.

Back Fabricio Werdum to beat Alexander Volkov by stoppage

Fabricio Werdum once again finds himself trying to force his way back into the UFC heavyweight title contention as he bids to become a two-time champion. The veteran Brazilian dropped the belt to Stipe Miocic back in May 2016 and since then has gone 3-1 in his last four fights, with back-to-back wins over Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura last year coming him in the top five.

Werdum will now look to make it three-in-a-row when he fights in England for the fourth time in his career, but looking to halt his progress is former Bellator heavyweight tournament winner and ex-M-1 Global champion Alexander Volkov, who has surged up the UFC rankings by going 3-0 since signing on with the premier promotion in mixed martial arts.

Volkov has beaten a couple of notable opponents in his early days in the UFC, beating Roy Nelson by decision before stopping Stefan Struve with strikes, but Werdum clearly represents the toughest challenge he has faced so far and I am not convinced that he will pass this test and propel himself into the top five in the heavyweight division.

The 29-year-old Russian does have an edge in the stand-up game, but if this fight goes to the ground he is in all sorts of trouble because Werdum has a huge advantage here. And that is what I expect we will see on Saturday night. The Brazilian will wear down Volkov, take him to the mat and use his world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills to force him to tap out.

Back Jimi Manuwa to beat Jan Blachowicz by stoppage

Jimi Manuwa’s quest to become UFC light-heavyweight champion suffered a major setback when Volkan Oezdemir knocked him out in 42 seconds last July, and time could be running out for ‘The Poster Boy’ who turned 38 back in February. Manuwa has insisted he can stop “short, fat wrestler” Daniel Cormier, who currently reigns over the 205lb division, but if he wants to prove that then he simply has to win his 10th fight inside the Octagon on Saturday night.

Providing the opposition is a familiar foe in Jan Blachowicz, who comes into the bout on a two-fight winning run. These two men have fought once before under the UFC banner, back in April 2015, and on that night it was Manuwa who had his hand raised after the judges gave him the nod in Krakow, Poland.

I expect Manuwa to be the winner once again in London, but on this occasion I do not expect to see the fight go the full 15 minutes. Beating Blachowicz is hardly going to result in Manuwa’s stock soaring, so it is important that he dispatches the Polish fighter in emphatic fashion and he certainly has the finishing power to do just that – 15 of his 17 professional MMA victories have come via KO/TKO and only one of them has gone the distance.

Blachowicz was that man who took ‘The Poster Boy’ to the final bell, but the stakes have never been higher for the British fighter and I expect him to delight the hometown crowd by taking out his Polish opponent inside three rounds. Just like the first fight he will walk Blachowicz down, but unlike last time he will find an opening to land a brutal blow that scrambles his opponent’s senses and leaves him staring up at the lights in the o2 Arena.
