UFC Fight Night St Louis predictions & betting tips: 5 reasons to back Jeremy Stephens to beat Doo Ho Choi

Leigh Copson 9 Jan 2018

Doo Ho Choi is aiming to kick-start his UFC career after a year on the sidelines, but we are backing ‘Lil Heathen’ Jeremy Stephens to ruin the South Korean’s return to action when they meet at UFC Fight Night St Louis on Sunday night.

5 Reasons Why You Should Back Stephens To Beat Choi

  1. Doo Ho Choi is an accurate striker with brutal knockout power, but Jeremy Stephens has shown repeatedly over the years that he can take serious punishment and keep coming forward. ‘Lil Heathen’ has been stopped via strikes just once in his career, and that was over five years ago, so he could absorb what Choi throws at him while returning fire with heavy shots himself.
  2. Jeremy Stephens may be 3-3 in his last six fights, but two of those defeats came against the men that will fight for the UFC featherweight title in March – Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar – and ‘Lil Heathen’ is heading into this bout on the back of the biggest win of his MMA career, a unanimous decision win over Gilbert Melendez in September.
  3. Jeremy Stephens’ gas tank could prove to be key here. ‘Lil Heathen’ has gone at least three rounds in each of his last nine fights and that is an impressive statistic when you look at the calibre of opposition he has faced in that time. Choi is not going to tear through him quickly and that will be of concern to fans of the South Korean – only two of his 16 professional fights so far have reached the third round and he could be rusty after a year on the sidelines. Choi may start strong, but he could fade and allow Stephens to take control of the bout.
  4. Jeremy Stephens is the more rounded fighter. Doo Ho Choi’s best chance of winning comes with keeping this fight on the feet, but it has to be said that ‘Lil Heathen’ should be able to hold his own in the striking game. And when it comes to grappling, Stephens will have the edge. Therefore he could use that to wear down his opponent, negate his violent striking power and grind out a victory.
  5. Odds of 7/5 are tempting for a fighter that has bags of UFC experience and is coming off easily the biggest victory of his professional career so far. And of course, if Stephens wins the fight you will be paid out in cash because this price is available to all customers.
