UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh predictions for Saturday, September 16. Will former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold make a winning return to action after over a year on the sidelines? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips for UFC Fight Night.

Luke Rockhold v David Branch

Luke Rockhold was on top of the world just over a year ago. He had been knocking out and submitting opponents en route to the UFC middleweight title and he was expected to make a successful first defence of the 185lb title when Michael Bisping stepped in at short notice to challenge the champion.

Rockhold had dominated ‘The Count’ when the two men had met in late 2014 and the American was being backed to make short work of the British fighter once again at UFC 199. The fight was brief, but it was Rockhold who found himself slumped up against the cage after just over three-and-a-half minutes as Bisping recorded one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The former champion has not stepped inside the Octagon since then, but on Saturday night he will have an opportunity to get his career back on track when he takes on David Branch, the former WSOF middleweight champion who is currently enjoying an 11-fight win streak.

Branch will be a handful for Rockhold in the stand-up, but the ex-champ has a serious edge on the mat and I expect that is where the fight will go. Rockhold will take the fight to the ground and once again showcase the ground n’ pound and submission skills that have seen 86% of his victories come via stoppage. Back the former middleweight champion to win via stoppage.

Mike Perry v Thiago Alves - FIGHT CANCELLED

FIGHT CANCELLED - ALVES NOT TRAVELLING DUE TO HURRICANE IRMA.

Thiago Alves showed there is still some fight left in the old dog when he bested Patrick Cote via decision in April. That victory ended a sequence of back-to-back defeats for ‘The Pitbull’ and he will now look to win back-to-back fights for the first time in over two years – but standing opposite him is a man with a staggering 100% knockout ratio after 11 professional fights.

Mike Perry, a former professional boxer, has compiled a 10-1 record in mixed martial arts and each of those victories have come via KO/TKO. He has taken out the likes of Danny Roberts and Jake Ellenberger during this run, but Alves has a more well-rounded game and that is why I am backing the Brazilian to spring the upset.

Alves is no slouch on his feet – he too has heavy hands but, more importantly, his savage kicks and knees mean he offers a more rounded threat in the stand-up game. Factor that in with his superior grappling and Alves has the recipe required to stifle Kelly’s brutal punching power. If Alves gets his gameplan right he can win this.

Krzysztof Jotko v Uriah Hall

Uriah Hall could find himself collecting his pink slip if he does not win this fight. ‘Prime Time’ has lost each of his last three fights – the last two via TKO – to slide down the middleweight rankings, and he desperately needs a win over Krzysztof Jotko.

However, I do not see that slump ending here. Jotko is not going to stand at the end of Hall’s range and allow the American to showcase his flash striking skills – the Polish fighter is going to get in close, smother his opponent and grind out his seventh victory inside the Octagon.
