Stipe Miocic opens as 1/2 favourite for super-fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 226

Leigh Copson 27 Jan 2018

Record-setting UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has been installed as the 1/2 favourite after it was announced he would make his next defence against light-heavyweight title-holder Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 on July 7.

Miocic became the most successful heavyweight champion of all time and cemented his status as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ as he dominated Francis Ngannou for five rounds earlier this month, making him the first UFC fighter to successfully defend the heavyweight gold on three straight occasions.

That same night Cormier demolished Volkan Oezdemir to maintain his spot atop the light-heavyweight division, and now the 205lb champion will have an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor by becoming the second man to hold two UFC titles in two different weights at the same time.

Cormier does have history in the heavyweight division having first made a name for himself by winning the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix back in 2012, but Paddy Power is not expecting him to add UFC heavyweight gold to his list of accomplishments.

Miocic has opened as a 1/2 favourite for the July 7 super-fight, with Cormier a 6/4 underdog.
