Bellator 179 London Predictions

Paul Daley v Rory MacDonald predictions & betting tips

Rory MacDonald’s Bellator debut fight has been one of the most eagerly-anticipated bouts in the promotion’s history. Forget washed-up names, MacDonald is a man that arrives in the promotion in his prime years having competed at the very top of the welterweight division in the UFC before defecting to Bellator last year, and the company is definitely giving him a challenging first outing in the form of Paul Daley.

Daley is a veteran of the mixed martial arts world having fought for every major promotion, and the Nottingham fighter has repeatedly lived up to his “Semtex” nickname by blasting out opponents with his devastating left hand. If Daley lands one of those destructive punches then MacDonald will find himself looking up at the lights as the referee waves it off.

MacDonald showed against Robbie Lawler that he is not afraid to get involved in a slugfest, but for all of the pre-fight bravado that would be a very stupid decision because it would be playing into the one strength that Daley has.

I expect the ‘Red King’ to fight smart, use his striking to set up the takedown and anyone that has watched ‘Semtex’ over the years will tell you the British fighter is out of his comfort zone when a fight hits the mat. MacDonald will then get the nod from the judges and move onto a shot at the Bellator welterweight title.

Liam McGeary v Linton Vassell predictions & betting tips

Liam McGeary bounced back from losing the Bellator light-heavyweight championship by stopping Brett McDermott last time out, and he should make it back-to-back victories when he takes on another fellow Brit on Friday night. Linton Vassell goes into the bout on the back of decision wins over Emanuel Newton and Francis Carmont, but McGeary is a step up in class from both of those men with a strong all round game. The former champion takes this.

Augusto Sakai v Cheick Kongo predictions & betting tips

Cheick Kongo has responded to a split decision defeat to Muhammad Lawal by reeling off four straight decision victories and he should make it five-in-a-row here. Augusto Sakai has never been beaten, but he has never faced anyone on Kongo’s level. His most recent outing ended in a majority draw against Dan Charles – a man who has gone 1-3-1 in his last five fights – and that does not bode well for him here. Kongo may be on the downside of his career but his superior class should show.
