Serena Williams to clinch a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title? Get the latest betting odds for the Women's Australian Open.

The start of the year brings an almost immediate beginning to the tennis season as the Women’s Australian Open begins in earnest on January 14th. The tournament brings together the best in the women’s game as every single player in the competition looks to start the new year off in the right way, be it with a few wins to get off the mark, or by lifting the trophy at the end of the month.

Despite not winning a tournament since the Australian Open in 2017, Serena Williams remains the favourite to win the competition, as she so often is, with the American an incredible athlete, and one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Williams can be backed at 9/2 with Ladbrokes, making her the huge favourite to win the competition, while next in the running is Naomi Osaka at 8/1. It shows how highly Williams is regarded that, despite not winning a Slam for two years, she is a long way ahead of second-favourite Osaka, who won the US Open, thus ending 2018 with the final available Slam.

Next up comes Germany’s Angelique Kerber at 9/1, with Simona Halep (11/1) and Aryna Sabalenka (12/1) next in the betting. Sloane Stephens, who won the US Open back in 2017, is available at 16’s, while another notable name lower in the betting is Caroline Wozniaki (18/1). The Dane is a player that has been world number one during her career, but never quite transferred her ranking into Slams, with the star only winning one title, although this was last year’s Australian Open, meaning she goes into this one as the defending champion.

However, despite the fact that she has not won a slam since the Australian back in 2017, we cannot look past a Williams win in this one as she has been so incredibly dominant for years on the women’s circuit with her blend over fearsome power, athleticism and accuracy wrecking havoc on her opponents. This has helped her onto 23 major titles throughout her glittering career, and we are backing her to claim her 24th title, bringing her level with Margaret Court, the only person left standing in her way of being the out-and-out leading Grand Slam winner in tennis and, despite now being 37-years-old, we think the fact two titles will see her at the very top will drive her on to unprecedented heights.
