One of Borna Coric or Cameron Norrie will move into the third round of the Italian Open for the first time when they meet at the Foro Italico on Tuesday.

Coric had never gone beyond the first round in his two previous appearances, losing a tight three-setter to Mikhail Kukushkin on debut in 2016, and retiring against Stefanos Tsitsipas last season, but he finally got off the mark in the Italian capital on Monday, battling back from a set down to beat Canadian young gun, Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7 6-3 6-4 in his 2019 opener.

Coric has not set the tour alight this year- he has had quite a few good weeks, reaching the semi-finals in Dubai, quarter finals in Miami, Monte Carlo and Budapest, but he isn't playing with the form and authority that took him to the brink of the top-ten last season. Can he find another gear this week and produce a deep run in Rome? He is at 3/10 @ Betfair to get through his second round meeting with Cameron Norrie on Tuesday.

Norrie's only previous visit to Rome was in 2018, when he fell in the first qualifying round, but he marked his main draw debut in 2019 with a 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory over John Millman in the first round.

Norrie began the season with a bang, opening with a runner-up finish in Auckland- his first tour-level final, while he also made the semi-finals in Acapulco a couple of months later, but he has struggled for wins outside those two tournaments. He's won four matches in nine tournaments away from Auckland and Acapulco. The good news, with relation to Tuesday's match in Rome, is that two of those victories were in Monte Carlo against Adrian Mannarino and Marton Fucsovics, who both provide decent opposition, and proof that the Brit when he is in form is very capable of winning big matches on this surface. Of course, it was on clay that he first announced himself to the tennis mainstream, when he produced a superb comeback to defeat Roberto Bautista-Agut in five sets in a Davis Cup tie in Marbella last February.

He is a big threat to Borna Coric's Rome ambitions, and Norrie to win at 3/1 @ bet365 is very attractive!

Coric vs Norrie Betting Tips

Coric made his first tour-level final on the clay of Marrakech in 2017, but he has generally not been as productive on this surface, relative to hard courts for instance, and he hasn't been playing his best tennis in 2019. I think Norrie has got a good chance here.

However, I’m always reluctant to bet against Coric, especially against a player that he should be beating, as what he lacks in genuine firepower, he makes up for it with bags of heart and fight, and the desire to always improve. His serve and forehand are much bigger and better now that they were earlier in his career (even though he is still very prone too errors off that forehand wing), and he has always been an excellent mover, which is always handy on this surface. The Croatian should just about get through this one.
