Andy Murray and Serena Williams have formed a mixed doubles ‘Dream Team’ for Wimbledon, but can they really go all the way and win the tournament?

Murray is sitting out the men’s singles competition this year as he continues his return from career-saving hip surgery, but after making a sensational return to action by winning the Queen’s men’s doubles trophy alongside Feliciano Lopez, it was confirmed that he would be in action at SW19 in the men’s doubles competition.

Having linked up with Pierre-Hugues Herbert for that competition there were also reports that he was looking for a female partner to enter the mixed doubles competition too, and after teasing reporters in recent days it has now been confirmed that he has landed himself arguably the best partner he could have wished for – Serena Williams.

Williams has racked up 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her career and nowhere has she been more successful than SW19, where she has won the womens’ singles title on seven occasions.

But that is not the only success she has enjoyed at this famous London venue – the 37-year-old American has also won the womens’ doubles title here on six occasions and that means if her and Murray can get their hands on the mixed doubles crown this year, she will complete a clean sweep of adult Wimbledon titles.

Former British number one Greg Rusedski quickly responded to the news of the partnership by backing them to win the trophy, declaring Murray “couldn’t get a better partner”, and the bookmakers appear to fancy their chances too.

Paddy Power is 7/2 that Murray and Williams win the 2019 Wimbledon mixed doubles titles.
