UK Championship Quarter-Final Tips

Martin Gould +3.5 frames handicap @ 4/6 with Betway

After coming through a pulsating late-night decider against Sunny Akani last night, Ronnie O'Sullivan wipes the slate clean for a clash with Martin Gould in the afternoon session.

O'Sullivan survived a huge scare from the 22-year-old Thai as he came from 4-2 and 5-4 down to avoid a huge upset and remain on course for a record-equalling sixth UK crown.

Gould has flown somewhat under the radar so far this week, defeating Joe Swail, Robbie Williams, Hossein Vafaei and Xiao Guodong to reach the Last Eight here for the second time in three years.

The Pinner Potter will be hoping to catch 'The Rocket' cold in the early stages and undoubtedly has the ability to give the world number four a real run for his money. O'Sullivan is unsurprisingly the big odds-on favourite, but the value looks to be with Gould in the handicaps market to win at least three frames.

Stephen Maguire to win @ 4/5 with Betfred

Maguire, the 2004 UK Champion, returns to action in the afternoon session as he takes on this year's Masters runner-up - Joe Perry.

Maguire has enjoyed a welcome return to form in York, reaching his first ranking Quarter-Final since June's Riga Masters and producing some sublime breaks along the way.

The Scot followed up a deciding frame win over Liang Wenbo with a commanding 6-2 defeat of Graeme Dott and will feel he has a genuine chance of vying for a second UK crown, a whole 13 years after his first.

Perry has a dismal record against Maguire, having won just two of their 12 previous meetings, the most recent of which coming nine years ago.

Both current form and the head-to-heads point towards a win for 'On Fire' Maguire, but expect this to be a close-run thing which could well go the distance.

Mark King +2.5 frames handicap @ 4/5 with BetVictor

Shaun Murphy, the 2008 UK Champion, steps up his latest title quest with a show-down against the charismatic Mark King.

Fifth seed Murphy will be counting his lucky stars after surviving a huge scare against Liam Highfield in Round Two before going on to comfortably dispatch Jimmy Robertson and Ricky Walden.

Semi-finalist here 12 months ago, 'The Magician' is the bookmaker's second favourite to regain this famous trophy but will be braced for a tough test from the rejuvenated Romford cueman.

King has won through to his first UK Championship Quarter-Final since 2004 after producing the sort of form which led him to last year's Northern Ireland Open title - his first career ranking triumph.

The 43-year-old has already seen off Luca Brecel and three-time UK Champion John Higgins and will fancy his chances of taking another scalp tonight.

With Murphy having not been at the top of his game so far and King producing consistently strong performances, the value likes with 'Kojak' to register a minimum of four frames.

How to bet on the UK Championship

Betting on the UK Championship could not be simpler, with a range of pre-match, outright and in-play markets at your fingertips via the majority of leading sports bookmakers.

To place a bet on the UK Championship, simply go to the home page of your chosen bookmaker on either the desktop site or mobile app and head to the A-Z sports menu.

From there, select Snooker > UK Championship and locate the match or market you wish place a bet on. Outrights, match coupons for accumulators and in-play markets are then listed on the interface. Compile your bet by clicking on the odds which will then add it to your betslip.

On the bet slip, you can then key in your stake and the type of bet you wish to place, for example, single, double, accumulator. Once your bet has been placed, keep an eye out for the cash-out option while your bets are still open, which is offered by most of the leading firms.

Markets offered on the UK Championship

Typically, the top bookmakers for snooker in general including Betway, Betfred and William Hill are also the go-to firms for placing bets on the UK Championship.

Main markets include match result - simply betting on which player will win the tie and frame handicaps - whereby a virtual advantage or disadvantage to either player is awarded in order to even the field, for example a +2.5 frames handicap bet would be for Player A or B to win the match if 2.5 frames were to be added to their final tally.

A two-way market for the total number of frames is a sensible bet if the contest appears too close to call on paper and is not reliant on either player to win. For example backing over 9.5 frames in a best of 11 match is covering the total number of frames amounting to either ten or eleven.

Punters can also bet on the number of centuries breaks in any given match, including a total number for either player or Player A or B to compile the most 100+ breaks. Significant odds of around 25/1 are often available for one player to produce snooker's holy grail - a maximum 147 break.

Other notable snooker betting markets include correct score for those with a precise prediction, as well as whether or not the match will go to a deciding frame.
