First staged in 2012, the Six Red World Championship is now held annually in Bangkok and boasts a unique format that attracts some of the game's top players.

Mark Davis won the first two stagings of the tournament before Stephen Maguire took the title in 2014 after beating Ricky Walden in the final.

The tournament is an invitational event that uses just six reds instead of the traditional 15, although otherwise all rules are the same. Snooker has a rich tradition in Thailand and the Six Red World Championship offers the best local amateurs an opportunity to compete alongside many of the world's top professionals.

Players are divided into eight groups of six for round-robin action with the top four finishers in each group progressing to the knock-out phase and last 32.

In 2014, Stephen Maguire took home 2.5 million Thai Baht (around £48,000) following his success at the event whilst runner up Walden bagged 1 million Baht.

The Six Red World Championship is a useful tune up for the Shanghai Masters which usually gets underway just a few days after its conclusion.

The tournament had an earlier incarnation in 2008 as the Six Red Snooker International, which was organised by the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports.

In 2009 the event was renamed the Six Red World Grand Prix and though it wasn't held in 2011, returned for the 2012/2013 season with the backing of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and a new name.
