Forty came at the beginning of the week, now just eight remain in the running to scoop the £85,000 top prize the the Grand Stage.

A stellar Quarter-Final line-up includes four of the world's top ten players, a former Shanghai finalist, as well as a trio of outsiders aiming to break new ground in this prestigious competition.

The pick of the last eight ties features an unmissable battle between two former Shanghai Masters finalists as 2011 runner-up Mark Williams meets 2012 runner-up - Judd Trump.

Trump disposed of the Welshman 6-4 in the Semi-Finals here three years ago and will be hoping for a similar outcome when the two left-handers collide once again.

Grand Prix champion Trump whitewashed Robert Milkins 5-0 in round one, before producing a nerveless clearance in the decider to edge out Matt Selt 5-4 on Thursday.

Williams has shown little sign of restriction in his cueing arm after recently undergoing shoulder surgery, with victories over Tom Ford and Jamie Cope carrying him through to the latter stages.

Williams has won three of the last four meetings between the pair and is targeting his first major ranking title since the 2011 German Masters.

Stuart Bingham continues the defence of his title with a tricky clash against an in-form Martin Gould - the Australian Open runner-up who has already seen off Barry Hawkins and John Higgins so far this week.

World Champion Bingham has dropped just three frames in overcoming Fang XiongMan and Mike Dunn, but it set to face his first real examination here.

The afternoon session sees home hero Ding Junhui step up his pursuit of a second Shanghai crown with a clash against world number 56 Kyren Wilson - the lowest ranked player left standing in the competition.

Ding, winner here in 2013, has taken the added weight of expectation in his stride so far this week, thrashing Alan McManus 5-1 before edging past Ryan Day in a last-frame decider in round two.

Wilson is appearing at this stage of a world ranking event for only the second time in his career - with the first having come in this event two years ago.

The Northamptonshire youngster battled through the Wildcard Round before sending home world number nine Joe Perry and Nottingham ace Michael Holt to continue his terrific run.

Mark Davis has also enjoyed a welcome bout of resurgence this week as he steps up his bid to return to the world's top 16, and the Hastings ace is now aiming to overcome last year's beaten finalist - Mark Allen.

Davis has already dispatched Indian Open champion Michael White and Masters Champion Michael White en route to this stage and is bidding to eclipse his best ever run in this event.

Ulster ace Allen, meanwhile, has continued his fine form on Chinese soil this week and is aiming to reach his fourth final in a China-based ranking event since 2012.

The action gets underway at 7.30am BST, with all matches to be contested over the best of nine frames from the Shanghai Grand Stage in China.
