Ronnie O'Sullivan looks to avert a third straight defeat at the hands of Michael Holt when the pair collide in Round Three of the International Championship in Daqing on Wednesday.

Holt has triumphed in their two previous meetings this year in the World Grand Prix and Shanghai Masters and will be determined to record a rare hat-trick over one of the sport's greatest ever natural talents.

O'Sullivan is in hot pursuit of his first ranking silverware of the season, having narrowly lost out to Judd Trump in the final of the European Masters, but has not had things all his own way so far this week.

The five-time World Champion, who has gone seven years without a title on Chinese soil, has claimed back-to-back 6-4 wins over Xiao Guodong and Kurt Maflin en route to this stage and will be braced for a similarly tough test in the round of 16.

O'Sullivan is one of 12 top 16 ranked stars left standing at this stage of the competition and will be out to lay down a marker to his title rivals with a win and commanding performance to match.

World number 26 Holt has seen off two Welshman en route to Round Three, brushing aside Jamie Jones 6-2 before holding his nerve to edge out Daniel Wells in a last-frame decider.

The heavy-scoring Nottingham cueist is aiming to follow up his run to the Quarter-Finals of last month's Shanghai Masters, which saw him comfortably defeat 'The Rocket' 5-2 along the way.

O'Sullivan has to go back almost a decade for his last competitive success over 'The Hitman' - which came in the last 32 of the 2007 UK Championship in Telford.

Their latest clash gets underway from 12.30pm BST and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Baihu Media Broadcasting Centre in Daqing, China.

World number two Stuart Bingham awaits the winner in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday.
